Air Serbia is negotiating a codeshare partnership with an airline from the United States to strengthen its operations to New York and upcoming new service to Chicago. Air Serbia's CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “We are in the final stage of negotiations and an announcement could be made maybe in the very near future, before the end of the year". He added that interest from other carriers to codeshare with Air Serbia could grow further due to the airline's planned US expansion, which will see it maintain daily flights between Belgrade and New York, as well as introduce a new two weekly service to Chicago.
JetBlue would be a perfect scenario for them;

What advantage has Jet Blue over other airlines? I am just curious as I don't know enough US carriers.

DeleteAmerican would be ideal for both, though then they’d have to transfer to terminal 1 at JFK and go to terminal 3 at ORD, whilst terminal 5 at ORD is better connected with European carriers.

DeleteDelta would be ideal because they use Terminal 5 at ORD and Terminals 2 and 4 at JFK (Air Serbia uses Terminal 1, which will be reconstructed and linked with Delta managed terminal 2). Also, Air Serbia would prefer Delta, it’s given the membership in SkyTeam and partnership with Air Serbia’s close partners Air France and KLM

DeleteWell, they made such a big deal of the need to get out of where they were due to the costs of operating into that terminal - citing it as one of the reasons which was contributing to the losses on the route. They also said the new terminal is so much better than the previous one. So if they have to go back there to make it easier/better for pax to connect to/from B6 flights, it negates the whole point of moving out of there.

They said changing A330 to a better lease agreement pushed the route to profitability, not terminal change. You are overreacting.

-They never said new terminal is so much better now. Everyone knows future plans for T1 reconstruction. That would one day make T1 more modern and better than T4.
-Common sense points to AA as the ideal codeshare partner with major hubs at both ORD and JFK.

DeletePOZDRAV I certainly prefer Croatia airlines and its narrow destinations routes and be on time than Air Serbia's everyday delay schedule , where in Belgrade airport especial in the afternoon (I was there two days ago ) you can hear swears from angry and frustrated passengers of Air Serbia !

I’m hoping for American Airlines (largest airline in the world), obviously, as it has major bases in both JFK & ORD… covers many, most if not all places around North America from the 2 hubs.. would be ideal, they already interline with them too, but you guys are all saying JetBlue.

ReplyDeleteAirSerbia should try to get a bigger part of passengers from down under. Either start mid-eastern flights or try southeast Asia to pick them up from there.

American Airlines would be perfect. They have a wider regional network than other USA airlines. Especially if it's Chicago or nyc
ReplyDeleteHopefully Air Serbia selects American Airlines as a partner in the USA since AA has already shown an interest in developing routes in Eastern Europe and with AIr Serbia not aligned in an Alliance they could be beneficial partners to each other on both sides of the Atlantic. ONEDWORLD could also use a carrier to give additional lift in Eastern Europe.

DeleteIt's not like US carriers are rushing to sign a deal with JU. It's the other way around. JU needs to get them to be interested. At the end of the day is is B6, not AA, UA or DL.
B6 was their first interline partner there and one of Dane's top people at JU works for them now.
@Anon 07:47, yes but B6 does not connect Chicago well with the US at all. I still think it will be AA, since both ORD and JFK are their hubs.
