Air Serbia to unveil name concept for ATRs

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia plans to name its ATR aircraft, with further details to be announced soon. The names will likely be related to the country’s geography rather than personalities, as featured on some of its Airbus jets. Speaking to "AeroTelegraph", Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “We are currently developing a different concept for our ATR fleet that will not necessarily be human related. It will be something more related to our home country and we will announce the details in the autumn”. In 2013, the airline launched a “Living Legends of Serbia” aircraft naming concept, where several narrow-body jets were named after famous Serbian sportsmen, actors and musicians. However, the concept never really took off and has been halted. The carrier named its first wide-body A330 jet after Nikola Tesla, while the second, which is due to arrive next month, will carry Mihajlo Pupin’s name. Air Serbia is currently renewing its ATR fleet. The process is to be completed by the end of the year.

Will Air Serbia add any flights to Bucharest after the failure of Blue Air? Wizz Air has already reacted.

I don't think they have enough aircraft to react, plus the routes covered by Blue Air and not covered by them. Wizzair also announced many new routes in OTP in December so it's a bit too late. The big boys FR and W6 need to hunt.

Blue Air flew from Bucharest to LHR, BRU, MAD, VLC, CDG, BCN, AMS, PRG, ATH, STR, DUS, CPH, LCA, OSL, LYS, ARN plus Milan. Before you write untruths, look at the Blue Air flight schedule. On the other hand, Wizz announces increases only from the beginning of December. And now it is the first decade of September. All JU flights until 17.09. are sold out. And for JU, the end of the season is already approaching. Fewer flights primarily to TIV and then to the Adriatic coast. There is room to increase at least 2-3 flights.

  7. I feel they should have implemented something similar to the rest of the fleet. It still feels strange to have airplanes named after people who are alive, to me at least.

I always found the “living legends” concept cringeworthy. With our rich history and amazing geography, there are more relevant terms that could be used and with which most of us would associate.

I think they should do the following:

    * ATR/future regional jets: mountains, rivers, national parks - Tara, Zlatibor, Dunav, Sava, Djedap
    * A319/A320: cities - Belgrade, Nis, Kraljevo, Novi Sad, Subotica
    * A330: same system with famous people, perhaps next could be Mileva Maric to have a female person on the tail (great marketing as well). Perhaps one named Tadija Sondermajer for the 100th anniversary would be awesome, along with a recreation of his famous flight (as close as possible).

Cargo planes, if they proceed with ATR conversion, would require own naming convention. Less known suburbs, for example: Miljakovac, Surčin, Borča, Mali Mokri Lug and of course, Munze.

Ok, you don't know what "trademark" is :) :) Google it :)
This is about brand positioning & marketing. I don't think that "Miki Manojlovic" & "Goran Bregovic" were any success except occasional comments.
Is potential naming of ATRs after mountains & rivers be more successful - I don't think so. Maybe if all of them are going to get unique special liveries...

I agree about the mixed comments that some are for some are against. Let it be, otherwise no democracy but on my opinion this concept is maybe a bit outdated. Nowadays, few people will focus or care if their ATR's name is Kraljevo or Subotica. They can use the Spanish Volotea or Ryanair regional slogans which are much visible and can promote the country. But those "baptisms" are kinda old, imo.
Bulgaria Air for instance uses their bigger cities in the aircraft registrations in their Embraers but no baptisms. Tarom have theirs on their ATRs but still look basically invisible.
It is better to have some fancy big stickers inside or outside of the aircraft promoting the country but also not extremely huge ones such as replacing the company's logo with Nikola Tesla, which is extreme. The humbler, the better.

This is interesting move, but really not necessary. Plus ATRs are not aircrafts majority of passengers like so not the best opportunity to promote Serbia.
"Living legends" concept is part of ridiculous period for the company. They are making many improvements now.
