Luxair to restore Split service

NEWS FLASH

Luxembourg’s national carrier Luxair has announced it will restore seasonal services to Split next summer following a three-year hiatus. Flights will operate once per week, each Sunday, from April 30 until October 8 with the Dash 8 turboprop. Split will become Luxair’s third destination in Croatia and sixth in the former Yugoslavia, complementing Belgrade, Dubrovnik, Podgorica, Tivat and Zadar. Further details can be found here.

As a slovenian its really frustrating to read all these new routes across exyu and we get NOTHING! Absolutely nothing. We strive for BASIC connectivity, far from wishes for secundary airports routes, nothing exotic. VIE, MAD, BCN, SOF.

I'm sure if the economic case for LJU flights was there LG would operate them.

Luxair was considering LUX-LJU last year. LJU had pretty much the same number of indirect passengers as BEG with around 5.200 passengers (I would say LJU had even more considering how many people fly from other airports). The only problem is that Cartel itself is handling 90% of traffic between LJU-LUX and they wouldn't like competition with Luxair.

5,200 annual pax both ways is 7 pax per day each way. That's a tiny market.

SPU is completely different. LUX is landlocked and full of wealthy people wanting to go to the seaside for a week during summer. If anything, the Dash is on the small side and a compromise.

They would not fly once per week of they expected more passengers.

A tiny market yet they still launched BEG..

Seems like a waste of a valuable landing slot during peak summer.
