Ljubljana Airport expects to see a strong fourth quarter and is likely to handle close to one million customers this year, up from the initially forecast 880.000. The airport noted, “More than 118.000 passengers travelled through Ljubljana Airport in September, which is an increase of 82% compared to September 2021. During the January to September period, almost 750.000 travellers were handled, 174% more than last year. If the expected passenger growth in the last quarter of 2022 is achieved, we will see close to a million passengers travelling through Ljubljana Airport”. The General Manager of airport operator Fraport Slovenija, Babett Stapel, noted, “A successful summer season brought the hustle and bustle back to Ljubljana Airport. Five routes will be strengthened with additional frequencies in the winter timetable, while the remaining carriers will essentially be offering the same number of flights as in the summer season. The number of airlines connecting Slovenia to the world will again reach pre-pandemic times, when there were twelve. As traffic continues to recover, we hope to approach one million handled passengers by the end of the year”. Ljubljana Airport expects to reach its 2019 passenger levels, which amounted to 1.7 million, in 2026.

DeleteWe will see what happens with the Ryanair talks. I find it surreal that Slovenia is the only EU country which they don't fly to following their departure from Maribor in 2007.

I completely agree with anonymous's comment from last week: "Is obvious that this is only negotiation tactics from FR to get better conditions at ZAG."
DeleteLJU is to close to VCE, ZAG, VIE to grow in LCC segment. The market around Slovenia is saturated and there is no growth potential.
ReplyDeleteRyanair: Ryanair serves 30 airports in Italy, including Forli, which returned this year. It bases aircraft and crew at 17. Earlier this year, it was mentioned that Ryanair might create a base at Trieste, not far from the border with Slovenia, but it hasn't yet.
Interesting that KLU, TRS, PUY and RJK don't have a problem with being close to ZAG, VIE and VCE, only LJU has.

DeleteIt is all about Fraport. It is clear that there is more demand from LJU to, for example, Malaga, Corfu, Paphos, ... than from ZAG. But since people from Slo drive to ZAG, the planes are full anyway.
DeleteLast week I flew to ZAG from Germany and continued my way home to Slovenia. The parking in front of airport was full, many many SLO plates, there was also GoOpti and so on. Such a shame, that nobody in our country doesnt do something about better connectivity. The demand is here (also coming from southern part of Austria), which was many times proven through a bunch of routes who are very sucessfull in LJU.

ReplyDeleteYeah, Zagreb is only 20 km from Slovenia, which has over 2 million residents. Another route that would work perfectly from LJU.
Delete19:23h Yes, I also heard that the ZAG-SOF route is doing well. Don't forget that Adria did quite well on the route in 2019 and now Zagreb is clearly taking advantage of the situation. Prices are still good.
