NEWS FLASH
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport’s expansion project is continuing to advance with extensive work taking place in the new departures area of the new central processor building, access roads and the A wing of the terminal.
Construction of the new central processor, which stretches over 15.000 square metres, is nearing completion. Recently, the new building was linked to the existing terminal where the security check and passport control area is located on the first floor, while the arrivals area of the new facility was quietly opened in late December. Work is expected to be finalised by the summer. It will enable the airport to boast 100 check-in desks, up to 1.200 square metres of additional retail space and an automated baggage handling system. The project includes the ongoing construction of a viaduct for pedestrians and cars, as well as the expansion of the smaller short-term car park which will be located in front of the terminal. Work continues on the construction of a new floor and overhaul of the final part of the A gates wing. Furthermore, construction of the airport's inserted runway is entering its final phase, with its introduction slated for late February. Following the tender to lease out the once popular “Borik” restaurant located in front of the terminal, work has begun on its overhaul by a popular local food chain.

Expanded de-icing platform
New wastewater treatment plant and new heating plant
New helicopter hangar
"Borik" overhaul
Is it me or did they add A4 and A5 airbdidges? Seems like those two gates might be put to use soon, before A gates are completely refurbished?
ReplyDeleteAlso anyone know what is built after C14? I know they mentioned additional remote stands so maybe that's it?
There is supposed to be an extension of the C finger in the same style up until gate C17
DeleteI think works are too high behind the current terminal to be the extension. Maybe they will have gates from both sides?
DeleteIf they were to go with that kind of “wrap around” approach, it would be a departure from the current plans
DeleteI think the terminal is too narrow for that. Maybe they will have some equipment parked behind, like some sort of parking
DeleteSay what you want, but having Walter at the airport is the best upgrade to BEG in the past decade 😅 How awesome would it be if they also had a counter in the transit area?
ReplyDeleteI think it would be difficult due to smoke from grilling. Then again people could complain about the smell in addition to dirty toilets.
DeleteAgreed, we definitely miss more local options on the airside.
DeleteCurrent selection is very generic one, nothing tells you you're in Belgrade.
@Vlad +1
DeleteI doubt an overrated restaurant chain is the best upgrade. lol
DeleteFeel free not to eat there then. I'd certainly rather have Walter than anything any airline has served me in Economy in the past decade.
DeleteAnything is an upgrade compared to Borik
DeleteThank you for letting us know that we can feel free not to eat there. Who said anything about airline food? This is a restaurant at the airport. It was a nice authentic place to eat at ever increasing options at generic food courts.
DeleteBy the end the place turned into a dump
DeleteYeah, probably knew their days were numbered.
DeleteI think Borik needed serious improvements in terms of reconstruction. Makes me wonder who was the owner, maybe it was the state. Anyway, the location is rather good and I am sure Walter will do a fine job. In summer it's nice because of the shade. I've never been to Walter but I'm sure they are not bad since they are so popular.
DeleteAfter all, no one expects cuisine at the airport.
Since when sarajevski ćevap is authentic Serbian food?!
DeleteI would rather see some leskovački roštilj or pazarski ćevap if it has to be grill. Serbian cuisine is much more than grill, but we don't know to appreciate it.
What is that huge gap on the glass facade?
ReplyDeleteLooks like the building is ripping up on the main photo hahaha, probably some kind of deformation on the terrain surface.
DeleteThe gap on the building definitely wasn't planned on purpose, it would be nice if some architecturer or construction worker could explain this photo to us....
That building element is called an expansion joint. It serves to stabilize the building in case of seismic shocks and/or uneven terrain movements. It also serves to minimize cracks that occur due to dilatation.
DeleteThanks a lot!
DeleteThanks for the explanation. I just can't believe there isn't a less ugly solution for that. I saw glass facade way larger than this one, but without any visible "joints" like this one.
DeleteCouldn't they put the symmetrical gap on the left side of the same facade? Just to make it less unappealing.
Deleteit will probably be fileld in with beading strips at some point and barely noticable.
DeleteThey are probably doing that towards the end of the building works once the initial building settlement has occured.
Well starting next month increases are starting so they'll need extra gates.
ReplyDeleteBEG-BUD-BEG starts in just over a month though that's more of a nightmare for JU than BEG.
DeleteI think they'll open more bus gates in the reconstructed A gate area.
DeleteWhat is going to be in that area called "central processor" ? thx in advance!
ReplyDeleteSecurity check
DeleteWhat is the number of passangers this January? It would be nice if it is above
Delete450 000. BEG had 347 544 passangers in January 2019.
My guess is that BEG will have in January this year 405.000-410.000 passengers.
Delete@12.03, check in desks, security, shopping plaza, arrivals area (already opened)
DeleteNo, shopping plaza will be in T2
DeleteIs there a new picture of the new runway ?
ReplyDeleteWill old A airbridges be replaced?
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteLet's see if Starbucks opens a shop there. Years ago they said they were planning to.
Thank you for the photo updates!
ReplyDeleteWhat are they planning to do with old terminal building? Is it going to be unified or it will just stay like this?
ReplyDeleteI think it will be merged into the new one.
DeleteWill the terminal 2 exterior be renovated to look like the new part?
ReplyDeleteThat is the key question. Right now from the entering BEG with car, exterior looks like a chess board, case in point old glass linking brand new section with T1. I doubt Vicni will be cheap and not fix it as the exterior from the landing side will be nice and uniformed. Other than T1 old building I think (hope) they'll make it uniform exterior to somewhat match.
DeleteWow they really expanded the de icing platform a lot. Good job.
ReplyDeleteShould there not be a large sign on the terminal somewhere: Nikola Tesla Airport Belgrade in English? Smaller than the one in Serbian, but clearly visible nonetheless.
ReplyDeletegood idea.
DeleteIt looks great as it is and English can be bypassed. I haven't seen Serbian, Hindu or Tamil in London either.
DeleteI think the Serbian version (especially in Cyrillic) is a much nicer solution. After all, I'm sure people will know where they are and don't need the airport to remind them.
DeleteAlso, the Serbian Cyrillic goes nicer with the ethnic motifs they have on the facade.
Next step: getting rid of the taxi mafia. Landed in BEG last week and was naturally harassed by the "taxi, taxi taxi" guys running up to me. Went to the booth and got a voucher, told them it was for the middle of Vojvoda Stepe and was given a voucher for 3000 friggin dinars! I took a cab from the same address to the airport for 2000 dinars a month earlier. What is even worse is that the taxi guy hovering over my shoulder saw it and walked away because he was probably going to charge a lot more. Caught the tiny A1 shuttle instead (luckily I only had carry on) and went to Slavija and caught a tram. Total cost 500 dinars. Took me about 15 minutes longer to get to my destination.
ReplyDeleteNice that you stood firm against the taxi mafija garbage.
Delete3000 RSD is now the new standard for city center destinations for some time, price went up recently so that was legitimate (but I agree expensive).
DeleteIndeed, 3.000 Dinars is the norm now. Don't forget that taxis increased their fares a while back. If you take a taxi from Slavija to the airport it will cost you between 2.500 and 3.000 Dinars.
DeleteOnly problem with the A1 bus line is that it stops operating quite early. I think last departure from Slavija is at 19.00.
Cyrillic removed from the airport. Someone in Vinci will be held responsible.
ReplyDeleteAre you okay? First photo says АЕРОДРОМ НИКОЛА ТЕСЛА БЕОГРАД.
DeletePostovani Anon 06:00. Predivan naslov na novoj zgradi Aerodroma Nikola Tesla Beograd na Cirilici.
DeleteTako prelepo. Ko ne razume ustavno pismo Srbije
a zivi u Srbiji? Za neznajuce cirilice postoji latinica.

Poštovani Rodni, gde to piše latinicom:
DeleteBELGRADE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT NIKOLA TESLA?
BEG is getting the much needed facility upgrade. What we had before was really not fit for where the airport is heading right now. Good thing is that they are working full speed to open as many gates as possible.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why they never expanded B remote stands by adding another 7 parking positions in the opposite direction. I think they can do it now that they moved the bus garage.
All in all, 2023 will be a key year for the airport.
