Romania’s national carrier TAROM has temporarily suspended its flights between Bucharest and Belgrade during the month of February. The airline plans to restore four weekly operations between the two capitals on March 1, increasing to five weekly from March 9. The airline maintains the service with its ATR72 turboprop aircraft. Although it has given no explanation for its decision, the suspension comes during the slowest month of the year in the aviation industry. TAROM will continue to codeshare on Air Serbia’s flights between Belgrade and Bucharest, which will, be maintained between seven and ten times per week in February.

DeleteTarom much better? HAHA Business Class from Frankfurt to Bucharest with only 1 bottle of water. I was shocked. Their own CEO talks about their low level of service, catering, employees with no motivation. Lounge looks like hospital food. Finances on the edge of collapse. If I have to book in advance, I try to avoid them because I am not sure they will be flying in the near future!

DeleteTAROM Business Lounge at OTP. The one upstairs, next to the toilets. Well, they have half liter wine glasses that they fill up full. I like that :)

DeleteTAROM are not in their best situation. They were supposed to takeover BlueAir and finally gave up. They are also suspending Munich next month and rely on their domestic market. They are being facing fierce competition by Wizzair and Ryanair and now HiSky.

DeleteAlso Animawings (soon to be renamed Aegean Romania) has taken over large part of the Romania to Greece charter market for the high season.
TAROM still operates like a classic state owned dinosaur, in a liberated aviation market that can't get you very far.

DeleteAir Serbia also cut today's departure at 13.45. They had one flight at 00.40 this morning.
ReplyDeleteThis week they will operate just 7 flights to Bucharest on their ATR.
Demand is just not there.
Next week they plan 8 weekly and A319 is back on Friday.

ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to see how OTP performs this year. Very interestingly and not so touristic as BUD, OTP surpassed BUD with approx. 500,000 to 12,6 million. TAROM will be adding very few frequencies in its existing network. Animawings was due to launch 2 daily ATH flights but they are still frozen. They pulled out of CLJ as well. All these market trends must be a lesson for JU in the future expansions.

DeleteDaily, we are averaging around 240-260 departures and arrivals (Fridays go up to around 280). And considering that we get these numbers in February (OTP’s weakest month), the signs are super positive for us.
Blue Air pax has now been fully distributed to Wizz Air (they added 5 new aircraft in oct-Nov last year), Hisky and Ryanair.
Personally I’m longing for somebody to resume direct Canada flights from OTP cuz we don’t need visa to enter Canada. Hisky is our best bet atm cuz they got 2 A321LR, maybe Air Transat. We will see. For both BEG and OTP it will be a fun year.
Also, I monitor BUD as well. Daily, we get around 30-40 more departures and arrivals than they do.
