Croatia Airlines is considering the possibility of restoring flights between Zagreb and Mostar which operated twice per week with the Dash 8 turboprop aircraft until the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Following talks with airline officials at the tourism and trade fair ITB Berlin, the Head of the Herzegovina-Neretva government, Nevenko Herceg, said, “The plan is for Croatia Airlines to introduce three weekly flights between Zagreb and Mostar. All the details will be negotiated in the next few months before a final contract is signed”. Mr Herceg noted services could begin as early as May. Croatia Airlines was previously subsidised on its Zagreb to Mostar service by local authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mostar Airport has been struggling to attract airlines and passengers. It handled just five travellers during the first month of the year.
If they do resume this route, I can't wait to see how they will fill an A220 in a year or two.

DeleteThis could be a real successful route if promoted and done properly. Madugoria is still very popular place for Catholics to visit so OU should get involved with tourist agencies who specialise in pilgrimage's to the site. No brainer really.

DeleteRoad connection is very bad and it makes more sense to operate OMO-SPU than it is ZAG-OSI, BEG-INI, BEG-BUD or BEG-LJU.
DeleteDriving between most of those cities (except domestic routes) requires border crossing which could be lengthy.

ReplyDeleteOU should should have flown not once but two or three times daily to Zagreb not only from Mostar, but from Sarajevo, Podgorica, Beograd, Pristina, Skopje, Tirana, Sofia, Bucharest, Budapest, Thessaloniki, Athens, Pula, Zadar and Osijek, and four or five times daily from Split and Dubrovnik. OU should have flown to many more destinations in the Near and Middle East, Scandinavia and the Baltic, Iberian peninsula, Central Europe. OU should have flown long haul, at least to New York, Chicago and Toronto, Delhi, Bangkok and Beijing or Seoul. OU should have positioned itself as main carrier of the Southeastern Europe, in synergy with Zagreb, which should have been the main hub for the region. OU had perfect chance for all of the above listed, some 15 years ago when LCC presence in the region was weak, and legacy competitors Jat Airways, Malev, Tarom, Olympic, Air Bulgaria down on the knees and almost bankrupt. Instead, nothing happened because the entire market was handed over to the Cartel, and OU made pathetic feeder and humiliated servant, in order for few selected persons to have financial and other non material benefits counted in millions, with blessings and under influence of the highest politics.

DeleteLast time I had hahaha saying the same for Podgorica. Meanwhile TGD turned out to be the service with most transfers to JFK on JU, and FR introduced and than increased frequencies on ZAG-TGD with high capacity equipment. And if you are not capable of getting broader picture of different kind of OU, which is not predominantly feeder but has its own developed network, placed in time frame where development started two decades ago, than the only one who deserves hahaha is you, unless you are just earning your sandwich

DeleteMaybe OU should attempt flights from Osijek to Ohrid with A330 which they don't have. They would have better luck.
