Slovenian airline tender awaiting EU approval

NEWS FLASH

The Slovenian government is still awaiting approval from the European Commission in order to issue a public call to airlines for the launch of ten new routes from the country in a bid to improve connectivity. The government had hoped it would be able to commence tender procedures today, however, the European Commission still hasn’t approved the subsidy scheme which will provide a total of 16.8 million euros to airlines over the next three years. As the program constitutes state aid, the executive body of the EU must approve it beforehand. The state will initially provide funds for the launch of flights to Vienna, Copenhagen, Athens, Madrid, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Charleroi, Skopje, Prague and Berlin. The tender is expected to run for thirty days once launched.

At least we are getting Pristina flights from 31.3 onwards... I can't see any of the listed flights happening this season with summer schedule already finalised

Pristina was already launched several months ago. I remember it being reported here. Then it got suspended and now it is restarting by the same tour operator. Nothing ground breaking.

      A few mistakes

They were operated on a charter basis, where you could book them only via call center. Now they are listed on ljubljana website and the tickets are available online. Not to mention that GP aviation is the one running them, not a tour operator

    1. Depends on the airlines that win. This is separate from the idea to form a new airline.

Charleroi is a strange option... The Slovenian economy doesn't need a Charleroi option... This is a Wizz subsidy

Slovenian economy and its residents need more connectivity to Brussels metropolitan area. According to european aviation state support rules, only support of the new routes is allowed, so CRL is the only option.
