NEWS FLASH

Finland’s national carrier, Finnair, which maintains seasonal flights from Helsinki to Ljubljana, Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, will rein in the amount of carry-on baggage on its flights by trimming the allowances for its most affordable ticket types. The airline will replace its economy light ticket with a new one called superlight on all journeys within Europe. Passengers with superlight tickets will only be allowed to carry a single bag, which must be stowable under the seat in front of them. Passengers who want to carry both a regular carry-on bag and an under-seat bag will have to purchase a light ticket. The carrier will also reduce baggage allowances for business class customers and adopt additional fees for all special baggage, such as golf bags and ski equipment. Furthermore, economy class passengers will no longer be able to select their seat for free at check-in and will instead be allocated one by airport staff. The adjustments to ticket types and baggage restrictions will enter into effect on June 1. The Finnish airline has also outlined that it is eliminating a second meal service for economy class passengers on a number of long haul flights including those to New York and Dubai.

Crisis due to Russian airspace ban has hit them really hard. Charging for seat selection at the airport is really LAME.

why would anyone fly with any other company not only finnair?
remember that FR is the biggest airline in europe and their service is absolute sh*t, so they probably know why they are doing this :D

Soon, other airlines will follow and introduce fee for carry-on bag. Cannot understand how this new policy matches their \(not low) fares?

It's just a continuation of the race to the bottom. Ryanair, Wizz, EasyJet, Spirit, Frontier, etc. are leading the way and all of the legacies are following.

Another airline that has gone downhill, similar to LH. HEL is an expensive airport, AY is also very expensive even if they pretend to be the "Asian specialist". Most people fly via the Gulf region anyway to reach the rest of Asia.

And they were cheap once upon the time. I flew Ljubljana Nagoya via Helsinki some 10 years ago and paid 496 euro economy return, while all other airlines had +700, +800 euros fares to Japan. And not only affordable, they had excellent on board service. I really liked flying with them. Pitty they are going this way...

No 2nd meal service for cross Atlantic flight? Wow, good luck with that AY! Shame, they used to be one of the better long-haul options out there.

Trying to commoditize every single thing is a sure sign that a Sun is set for the current economic system.
They managed to commoditize art (50 million $ for some random paint strokes on the canvas), they commoditize love ( by Tinder, Match.com and rest of online mindbogling meat market) and lets not talk about commoditization of Sport where transfer of players become almost as form of human trafficking 😊
so i am not surprised for carry on luggage.
My only worry now is charging a trip to washrooms during the long haul flights.😊
