NEWS FLASH
Air Serbia will increase frequencies on flights between Belgrade and Barcelona this coming winter season. Services will be performed nine times per week, up from four weekly last winter. As a result, the airline will maintain the same number of frequencies on the route it has been operating this summer. The 2023/24 winter season begins on October 29. Air Serbia competes directly against Wizz Air on the route, which will maintain daily flights between the two cities this winter.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget that as they fight for local traffic JU will become more competitive with transfer passengers. So in a way it could be a win-win situation for everyone.

with increased frequency it increases the chance that people in the JUG will use JU and Belgrade as transit hub.

Sofia on the other hand has seasonal flights with Bulgaria air, year round flights from FR and W6.
There are 10 planes a day between Istanbul and Paris. And most of them are wide-body. And again, in addition to all that, Air Serbia has passengers flying from IST to CDG and vice versa.
DeleteOn my flight from SOF to BEG there were transfers to FRA despite there being so many non-stop flights between Sofia and Frankfurt. People will have a connecting flight if the price or schedule suits them more.

Deletehehe well it's a small sacrifice for spending an extra whole day in Portugal. I've done it a few times with the night flight from LCA (Sunday to Monday).

Whole day of carrying luggage all around Lisbon sounds like a dream. Specially having in mind the unique terrain it has.
DeleteNo need to carry your luggage around the city. Most hotels have special rooms where you can leave it after check out and before you leave to the airport.

DeleteThe will have to transfer the whole profit to the government though, but anyway amazing achievement for JU!
DeleteAny profits would have to be paid back as Air Serbia got many subsidies by the state. This company cannot live on its own.
DeleteAs of last year it can. Last years profit wasn't spectacular but still their first profit in decades once subsidies have been removed. This year is expected to be even higher. It's a step in the right direction.
DeleteIt has reached a point where the GoS is more financially dependent on Air Serbia than Air Serbia is dependent on the GoS.
DeleteI'm not talking about the previous subsidies or the 20 million that JU deposited into the state budget. That is all insignificant in the broader picture. Pocket change.
Serbia's economy could not accept JU stopping operations. Indirectly, JU is responsible for a decent percentage of Serbia's GDP. Billions of dollars are changing hands every year. Tens of thousands of people are employed (directly or Indirectly). Air Serbia brings tourism and foreign investment.
Without JU, the economy would be in very serious problems. It has gotten to the point that Air Serbia is too big to fail.

DeleteSevilla is 200 km from Malaga, I don't think it's on their radar. Maybe Alicante could be next though I'd rather they increase their existing network to Spain. BCN is decent now so now they should work on boosting MAD and AGP and PMI in summer.
