NEWS FLASH

The United Kingdom’s Menzies Aviation, which operates at 250 locations in more than sixty countries, has announced it plans to begin providing ground handling services at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, after the government liberalised the sector last month. “It will soon be a year since Menzies Aviation entered the Serbian market, and Menzies Serbia is an integral part of our plan for continued expansion in the Western Balkans. The initial results are promising. Relevant Serbian authorities have now issued an official Decision that allows Menzies Aviation to provide complete ground handling services at Belgrade Airport. Our mission is to improve ground handling services, grow air cargo traffic, and apply the highest quality standards in our field, as well as the knowledge and expertise required to raise the quality of services to the highest level”, the company’s General Manager for Serbia and Montenegro, Ana Marojević, said. She added, “Our goal in the Serbian market is to implement our know-how and expertise to raise the level of service that Belgrade Airport rightfully deserves. Serbia is a strategically important location in the region, and we believe that improving air transport and aviation logistics can have a significant positive effect on the further development of Serbia’s economic and international position”. The Serbian government has enabled any company that meets the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate’s standards to provide ground handling at Belgrade Airport. Apart from the three companies already doing so, another three have been issued permits from the regulator, among which is Menzies Aviation. Ground handling and a lack of staff among service providers have been identified as one of the major contributors to frequent flight delays at Belgrade Airport this summer.

No, passengers are not their customers, airlines are.
Airlines bring them passengers. If there are no airlines then there are no passengers either.

Anon 14.21, if you really want to be so picky, passengers are their customers as other anon correctly said.
      Airlines are their clients!

Good for the government. Current players could not handle the traffic this summer -- OK, well, bring some competition in. Over time the competent players will win. Also a warning to every wannabe monopoly or duopoly

Having more then 3 ground handlers (on the ramp) at an airport the size of Belgrade will be chaos - there simply isn't enough space I'd imagine to store all their ground service equipment...one has to assume that Menzies and/or Goldair will be acquiring or taking over one of the existing handlers..

Huh? Of course there is enough room, all this handling equipment is parked across from the terminal right behind the B platform.

Wish the locals would know how to pronounce it. It’s “mingus”.

The name is traditionally pronounced — and still is in Scotland — /ˈmɪŋɪs/ (listen) MING-iss. The current spelling arose when the similar-looking tailed variant of the letter ⟨z⟩ (i.e., ⟨𝔷⟩) was used as a substitute for the now obsolete letter ⟨ȝ⟩ (yogh) in the Scots language (Menȝies). However, outside Scotland it is often erroneously given the spelling-pronunciation /ˈmɛnziːz/ MEN-zeez.

If Menzies Aviation will be operating at BEG the same way they operate at YYZ (Toronto), people better keep their luggage with themselves. Even though their name and number were on the PIR report, I could not get in touch with them at all about my lost bag. They don’t answer phones and emails, and they don’t bother contacting you. I managed to retrieve it from the airport by myself only because I knew exactly where it was since I had a tracking device in it. Good luck with them…
