Niš Airport’s new terminal nears completion

The construction of Niš Constantine the Great Airport’s new terminal building (pictured) is scheduled for completion by the end of next month, while it is expected to handle its first passengers in 2024. “Following the completion of construction work by the end of September, we will start equipping the new building, with the first passengers to be welcomed at the new facility during the 2024 summer season. The existing terminal will then be overhauled”, the General Manager of operator Airports of Serbia, Mihajlo Zdravković, said. The new 7.160-square-metre terminal will boast ten check-in desks, self-check-in stations, eight passport control booths, four passenger gates and one VIP gate. Furthermore, it will feature one air bridge and a luggage sorting facility. New food and beverage outlets, as well as duty free shops, will also be added, stretching over 700 square metres. The project will increase the airport’s annual capacity to 1.5 million passengers and will enable it to simultaneously handle six aircraft. The development is valued at eleven million euros. Niš Airport handled a record 261.301 passengers during the January - July period, representing an increase of 29.9% on last year and up 29.8% on the pre-pandemic 2019. This July, the airport registered its busiest month on record.

    Duty Free at Airports and on board is redundant nowadays- base case, prices are same as elsewhere, worst case sometimes it`s even more expensive to buy stuff in a duty free.

      If you have a Platinum status with Red by Dufry for example, you get 10% off for every purchase and for me personally, that's typically cheaper than retail in the country. Not quite what it used to be in the 90s, but you can still find good deals pretty much everywhere, and most of the time it's just easier for me to grab what I need once I arrive at the airport

      One airbridge will be built and operational from the beginning with the possibility to add another one in the later stage. It's reasonable I would says considering their clients are mainly LCC.
      And if that one brakes down, they will just use the other gates and stairs.

      It's not doom and gloom, that's common sense: if you have one bridge and it is for any reason off the service, there's the problem. But you prefer to handle problem when it happens, not before, we see that with BEG this summer after calling names anyone who pointed out the issues before the summer/problem.

      But this is INI, not BEG. I mean the airport will hopefully develop and have more and more pax, but it is still INI where most of the carriers will be LLCs and/or subsidized LLC-type routes. It's a big if whether this one bridge is needed at all, but I do agree it's a smart way to make the airport future-proof right now.

      It's complete nonsense what you are writing. If the airbridge breaks down they can just use a regular gate. There is no economic sense to spend money on two since it's only JU's A319 that will be using it (IST, CGN, HHN, BEG flights). A319 has 6 weekly frequencies out of INI.

      It's not like the airport will be handicapped if the airbridge breaks down.

      BVA is my guess or the return of Berlin.

      Leisure routes performed EXTREMELY well this summer so I suppose there will be even more next summer.

      BVA is a must due to large diaspora even though I'd prefer direct flights to either CDG or ORY, Transavia (from ORY) or Vueling (from CDG or ORY) can enter this market easily.

      Don't think Vueling will do much, they are retreating from ex-YU big time. They just announced major cuts to the Croatian coast for next summer, that was their last strong position in the region.

      If BVA flights have to be materialized I would prefer Ryanair rather than Wizz Air. FR is often very cheap while W6 can be abusive sometime on prices especially in summer.

      I guess that Zurich can grow from seasonal to regular destination, as well as Athens with 4 and 2 flights per week respectivly.
      As new routes AirSerbia can open Malmo, Paris, London, Barcelona, Amsterdam…

      Good thing with Athens is that it can be operated with the small and economical ATR. I don't think they can efficiently use it to ZRH. Maybe if they had an E90 to spare they could run some INI flights. don't see it happening anytime soon though.

      My thoughts as well. FR has been flying to INI for a long time. Sadly it will lose MMX with W6 but I think they are generally cutting many routes in MMX. The city´s reputation has went really down plus you have CPH quite close. INI needs a connection to Spain and perhaps restore the UK ski charters in winter.

      Wizz Air is cutting Malmo in winter but they said they will bring it back in summer. That said, this winter they are doubling the number of flights to Memmingen.

      I don't think we'll see many new destinations to the West as long as there is looming recession over there. Yesterday it was announced that German industrial activity fell by 1.5%.

      No one said demand will collapse so it's ok that they are increasing FMM. However INI did lose a lot of flights to the West like Berlin, Malmo (second time), Bergamo and Zurich several times (YM, Jat, Swiss, Air Serbia).

    It would be great if INI received some more leisure destinations. I think Larnaca could work given the huge demand to Cyprus we're seeing this year. Also like someone mentioned BCN could work, and maybe some additional charters to Turkey, Greek islands such as Rhodes, Crete etc.

      Exactly, PFO may be a great addition, BCN too. Both are Ryanair routes, like BVA and BER
      In the end, Ryanair may have a not negligible network from INI, serving CFU, ARN, VIE, MLA, BCN, BVA, BER, PFO ! A good achievement for a such little city

    As a bus driver in Niš, who operates daily with 34 A&B(Airport,Bus station,Train station). It's not near complete. The deadline is in March next year. They have yet to expand parking lot which is small and the other side which operates currently the flights.
    The deadline will be broken.

    I can't wait to fly out of the new terminal next year. It is the only airport in Serbia that I use for travel within Europe even though I live much closer to Beg most of the year.
    And one air bridge is sufficient for the airport. Air Bridges don't break down every day. Lol

    Ako bude napravljen Observation platform, bila bi to za sada jedina u Srbiji. Na aeroromu Beograd za sada je praznina praznina. Dok se ne bude napravio Treci terminal.
    Mada investitor nije entuziast u oblasti omogucenja uvodjenja te mogucnosti. .✈🌐🛫
