American Airlines to begin Belgrade codeshare flights

NEWS FLASH

American Airlines will add its designator code and flight numbers onto British Airways' new service between London Heathrow and Belgrade. The codeshare will come into effect on November 3. American Airlines serves eleven cities in the US out of London Heathrow. It becomes the fourth US carrier with codeshare flights to Belgrade, joining Delta, which codeshares on KLM’s Belgrade service, United with codes on Lufthansa's Frankfurt - Belgrade operation and jetBlue, which has its codes on Air Serbia’s flights from New York and Chicago.

Great news! Also, it would be awesome if they lounch flights between JKF and BEG, as well as other cities like ORD, MIA, BOS, PDK.

For JU that is maybe profitable. For AA there are more profitable markets to focus.

If only the title didn’t have "codeshare" and AA would fly direct from US to BEG…

Breaking news for you: Air Serbia already has direct flights between BEG and the US. They interline with AA to destinations not served directly like LAX. You can fly AA LAX-ORD and JU ORD-BEG on a single ticket.

Omg no way Air Serbia has been flying to the US since 2016 I’m shocked, I think they fly to ORD too right ? Lol
Having AA is different it means Serbian market can sustain another airline for long haul destinations

For Serbia it’s better that Air Serbia is sole airline to US.

Belgrade market can sustain one airline serving US market at this point. Unlike ZAG market, able to sustain 0 carriers to/from US.

Direct flight MIA-BEG or CLT-BEG with American Airlines would be more than welcome, or Delta ATL-BEG

Nothing stopping AA and DL from launching them. They must know something you don't.

BEG is not a big tourist destination as ATH is , that is what they surely know .

Beg will surely be on the radar screen of a few American airlines in the near future. The country has a growing economy and eventually more American companies will be looking to open offices here. There is also the World Fair in 2027 and growing tourism.
And Air Serbia will be adding at least two more destinations to the US very soon.

At least 2 more in the US??? What are those 2, and if more than 2, what is the third one?

I think Miami is a sure bet as it has been mentioned so many times. The debate within Air Serbia was weather to fly to Orlando or Miami and it looks like Miami won out.
The other destination is another east coast city and Washington DC has been mentioned several times.
The problem AS is having currently is finding more A300s. The next one will be used for their new China destinations and the fourth one for the US .

Miami is not a sure bet. Marek calls AA in MIA "partner" but this codeshare with BA means AA will bring passengers to LHR for BA to deliver them to BEG, circumventing Air Serbia transatlantic services completely.

Companies continue to compete with each other even when they are in an alliance or have a codeshare; let alone when they simply have an interline. This is completely normal. In fact companies have to prove to the authorities that they continue to vigorously compete with each other when faced with antitrust concerns. AA partnering with BA to bring pax to BEG directly and independently of JU's transatlantic service is perfectly compatible with them continuing to interline through JFK, ORD, and potentially MIA

True, but there's no hiding from the fact AA prefers BA as a pardner over JU by a country mile. Not just codeshare but the JV that tips the scale that way.

When it comes to MIA, there is no significant benefit AA would bring to Air Serbia. Makes one wonder why would Air Serbia CEO bring it up as apparent advantage to launching MIA. But then Marek is also wrong when calling Miami a year-round destination. August and September are weakest months for MIA travel and cruise ships are mostly in Europe. Nov-Apr is the right season for BEG-MIA service and perfect complement for possible Air Serbia Belgrade-Toronto summer seasonal service.

Maybe he calls it a year round destination because he can see the traffic volumes from/to Belgrade, unlike you.

Then he needs to compare it to traffic volumes to/from Toronto.
