PHOTOS: Air Serbia touches down in Manila

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has operated one of the longest nonstop flights in its history after it performed the almost 10.000-kilometre one-off charter service to the Philippine capital of Manila. As exclusively reported by EX-YU Aviation News last Friday, the Airbus A330-200 aircraft has been deployed to pick-up Serbia’s men's national basketball team, which were runners-up at the World Cup held in the Philippines. The 11-hour 25-minute flight took off from Belgrade yesterday evening. The cabin crew rostered on the return service was previously flown to Manila in order to operate the return journey. The winning German team returned to their home country on board a scheduled Emirates flight.

That must have been a very long flight. I am wondering now if A330-200 has enough range to introduce non-stop flights to Perth and become the first European airline with non-stop flights to Australia :) I am surprised TK hasn't done it yet.

Marek has said that Australia is out of the question and that money cannot be made on such routes (probably why no one from Europe flies to Australia except BA). He was asked about it recently.

yes the A330-200 can reach Perth Australia comfortably.

in the last 10 years only 2 planes could do the range from europe to austrailia (sydney/ melbourne) being the A340-500 which could make it from Frankfurt but it would be close and Boeing 777-200LR which can only be flown from Athens to Australia. both planes were very very inefficient and in order to make any money on the Ultra long haul routes they had to have a premium heavy configuration which is why no one in europe bothered.

but the Qantas tickets from Perth to london cost the same as the tickets on Qatar with a stop. but thats on a new Boeing-787

the market in serbia and the balkans is too price sensitive and would prefer the cheaper flights from sydney/melbourn with a stop in Qatar. On an A330 ceo the cost would be more than people in the region would be willing to pay.
Maybe if they would get the A330 Neo which is more efficient they could make it work to Perth.

TK is planning to do it. but they are waiting to receive the new and efficient A350's and then launch the route. theyre going to start the route next year
Qantas is going to launch flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Paris and London but they had to order a special edition A350-100ULR that can make the journey and is fuel efficient enough.

@Slav.Man. Makes sense. Thanks for your explanation. A330-200 is very versatile and a good choice for JU. I think if they ever decide to upgrade to A330NEO, flying non-stop to Perth might be justified. Also, the seating configuration 2-4-2 on A330s makes it much more comfortable on long-haul flights than 3-3-3 or 3-4-3. I personally wouldn't mind paying more for a non-stop flight or with 1-stop to make it to my destination. Considering all those delays, congestions and lost luggage issues we have seen lately, makes me wonder if more people will be opting for non-stop flights in the future.

Because no one in Germany gave a toss about this game (or basketball in general). In contrast Iberia sent its A350 to Sydney last month when its Women's football team won the world cup.

@16:35, We have had three airlines in the past: Avoimpex 1993-2002 which was the best airline of the country with the best reputation and customer service ( The presidents used it when they traveled, Boris Trajkovski was serving good and drinks once ), then Palair Macedonia and MAT Airways ( a shame of an airline ). All of them collapsed due to the corrupted government. Avioimpex was asked to give mito to the prime minister in order to continue to operate from Skopje, that didnt happen so they had to fly from Pristhina for several months before they collapsed due to the conditions. Avioimoex was partner with Adria Airways at the time as well as many other european carriers, had a fleet of 12 aircraft and had better network then OU has today from ZAG. About your comment, we will never have national carrier again, as we dont have other more important things such as new hospitals or books for the students. That's why Wizz Air is the best thing for Skopje Airport and it should remain like that.
@16:32 Yeah of course B747 will be rented for them, that is the best thing that we know how to do, spend money on less important things insted of investing them in simething which will be beneficial for everyone.

I understand you , our government is focused on stealing instead of investing in the good for our country , we can have airline but their focus is on tender money , sharing between them ...I steal hope that day will come once ...I know it sound funny but , generations are changing 3 option is more then needed so ...for now we can just hope more airlines to come and new routes to ne opened , especially main Europe hubs for better connections and choices.
Thank you for sharing some old facts about our aviation.

YU-ARC has a crew rest container, right? Did they take back the outbound crew right away? Would that be legal?

Didnt they had a layover in Manila? If they didnt, then there should be another set of crew going there dead-head which will operate the return flight.
