NEWS FLASH
Ryanair has scheduled the launch of an additional three new routes from Croatia next summer, complementing the expansion of its Zagreb and Zadar bases, as well as the opening of its new Dubrovnik base next year. The budget airline will inaugurate seasonal flights from Vienna to both Split and Rijeka, while a new service from Memmingen to Pula will also be introduced. As exclusively reported by EX-YU Aviation News last week, the carrier is adding new routes from both Zagreb and Zadar next year, which have now gone on sale.

DeleteIt seems that the focus is not only on Zagreb, Zadar and Dobrovnik. I see expansion to Split and Pula in the future as well. Why also not in Rijeka ?
ReplyDeleteExpantion in Pula? Where do you see it? Pula and Rijeka are the worst. They do absolutely nothing to attract more Ryanair flights.
DeleteRyanair now has 7 routes out of Pula, which is the most it has ever had (I think). This summer (2023), it added Weeze and it worked out very well so they are now trying Memmingen which should also work out. It also added Katowice this summer and the route is going up to 3 times weekly for 2024.

DeleteJesus Christ, next year Croatia will be on fire with so many new Ryanair routes!! ;) They are usually a bit late this year with the summer schedules. They recently expanded in Skiathos as well but Dubrovnik is another level....lol

DeleteZAG to VIE is 2 daily OU and 2 daily OS, if I am not mistaken. For VIE - RJK, no way it won't work - hundreds of thousands of tourists, many Austrians have houses in Kvarner region, yachts and boats in marinas in Punat, Cres, Losinj, Icici/Opatija...., plenty of croatian and Balkan people in Vienna coming regularly, with FR prices and Monday and Friday operations days, success guaranteed. Btw, after Air Baltic and Condor leaving RJK, glad at least something is happening
DeleteYup, it should work. I have a house in Jurandvor and it's surprising there isn't more connections, despite the highways. As you say many Austrians have property in the Kvarner region including the island of Krk itself. Germans too. Many more from the Netherlands to Hungary, and everywhere in between are regulars.

DeleteIn that case, it is realistic somehow that Hrvatska will probably receive 25 million tourists next year. Obviously, Schengen and Eurozone helped a lot and will continue doing it. Realistically, Croatia is the second most visited Balkan nation after Greece and still its numbers are pretty impressive with its 4 million population and less than 10 airports compared to Greece which is almost 10 million and perhaps 30+ airports. Well done, Croatia! Hopefully, Rijeka sees more routes in the future as well as Brač, which seems a bit "forgotten".

DeleteWell, we need better guests, not more guests... It's already too crowded in some parts of the coast during summer months.
Deletethey fly from Vienna to all coastal airports in Croatia, Brac is still missing, maybe it is the next destination on their network...
Deleteand the line would certainly be successful and in demand, considering how many Austrians vacation on the island of Brac.
Actually Croatia is 6th most visited country in the EU, 12th in the World.

ReplyDeleteIt would be really nice if RJK expanded more. It has a big catchment area with Kvarner, Istria, the northern Croatian islands (Krk, Mali Losinj, Cres and even Rab and Pag). Also people from Slovenia, Trieste and Zagreb area would use it potentially.
ReplyDeleteWhy would someone from Trieste use Rijeka when Venice can be reached by Trenitalia, Flixbus and car, and it is within the same country while Rijeka Airport is two (!) countries away.
DeleteAnd why would anyone from Zagreb or Ljubljana go to Rijeka to catch a flight when they can fly from Zagreb, or if they want to drive further to catch a cheap flight they can drive to Vienna, Venice or Zadar?
With Schengen, it's not two countries away. It's borderless. Even now, after Israel crisis, I went to Trieste few days ago, and no body stopped me or asked anything. Probably they do it with suspicious vehicles or people, but generally with RI plates, KP plates or Italian ones, you just go. And also I see plenty of ZG and LJ plates at RJK every summer, coming to take flights to BER, DUS, HAM, RIX, EIN..., not operated from their airports. Why do they do so, maybe you should ask them, instead asking us why would they do it
DeleteAnon 14.48 here, as a response to you anon 15.06... for the right price people would definitely do it. Its also just 2 hours to Zagreb and Ljubljana and even less to Trieste. Same as people from Rijeka look at flights from those airports, people frpm tbere would look at flights to Rijeka if there would open up more routes. Therefore the airport has a lot of potential, whether you like it or not.
DeleteA person from Rijeka will look at flights from Venice to check if there is a more direct or cheaper way to get where they need to get to. But I guarantee you that a person from Venice will absolutely not look at Rijeka Airport as an alternative
DeleteOriginal poster didn't mention people from Venice but from Trieste. It's big diferrence. I agree no one would come from Venice to Rijeka, but from Trieste and Koper, yes they do come, especially for german LCC flights which RJK has much more than TRS

DeleteA mild November in Zadar is still way worse than a normal November in Portugal, Spain or southern Italy. Not to mention Cyprus and the canaries.
