NEWS FLASH

Icelandic low cost carrier PLAY will introduce seasonal summer flights to Split, becoming the first carrier to maintain scheduled operations between Iceland and Croatia. The service from Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport will run once per week, from May 28 until August 13, with its 174-seat Airbus A320neo aircraft. Further flight details can be found here. "Split is a dream destination or us at PLAY. It has beautiful landscapes and a vibrant culture. I have no doubt this will be one of our most popular destinations this year. Everywhere we go, we give the competition a run for their money. We want to make travel more affordable and I am sure our Split service will be well received by people who want to visit our beautiful country of Iceland", PLAY CEO, Birgir Jonsson, said. Despite being an ultra low cost carrier, PLAY specialises in transfers between Europe and the United States via its hub in Iceland.

    Very unexpected, yet extremely welcome.

Would be nice to see seasonal flights to LJU or ZAG, both cities have tons of transfer and charter operations to Iceland, so the demand is definitely there

I do remember Ljubljana having quite a few charters to Keflavik with tour operators, but idk what op meant about Zagreb.

Regardless, would be hard to maintain traffic, I'd assume

Every good news and every improvement, every new service and new airline, anywhere in ex-yu, is the reason for congratulations. With that part I agree, and I join congrats. But calling absolutely remarkable one flight per week for two and a half months, sorry, but it's not absolutely remarkable, it's way exaggerated

In your view. You have the right for your view just like other people have for their. You are not a standard other people should refer to for anything.

I fully agree I am not standard and no one should refer to me for anything. But I disagree it's about my view. It's all about the numbers and about the facts. And to prove it, kindly asking you to answer me the following : if one flight weekly for two and a half months is absolutely remarkable, how would you describe this service if it would be operated year-round, with daily flights during winter timetable and two daily flights during summer timetable?

Their Hamilton route will feed this route nicely with transfers. Would be great if they flew to BEG as well with their A20N during the summer. I'm sure it would be full thanks to YHM.

Hamilton is a city in Ontario close to Toronto and it became PLAY's first route in Canada last year. Southern Ontario in general has a large Serbian diaspora and so Reykjavik - Belgrade would be very useful for many of us looking to save a couple hundred dollars when we visit Serbia. Unfortunately there aren't many affordable options between Toronto and Belgrade, so a ULCC option would be great at least until BEG-YYZ flights are started, which likely happen in a few years.

I never write as Anonymous. I wrote under my nick it was good and I joined congrats. I don't think it's absolutely remarkable but I don't think it will fail, I think it will be success, precisely for being seasonal, when you can expect tourists from Iceland, and both ways transfers from/to North America. But some people here have huuuuuge problems with common sense, with objectivity, with balanced thinking, with making conclusions and with basic logic.

Their prices for flights from Split to N. America do not seem to be too affordable. Standard tariff with cabin baggage and checked in baggage is over 700 USD.

Not too affordable, I can agree with that one, but it's still cheaper compared to most of legacies. It's peak season when they will operate, when demand is strongest and prices highest, so I doubt something cheaper could be find. Winter, spring, fall, yes, but June-July-August, hardly
