Icelandic low cost carrier PLAY, which will commence
seasonal flights between Reykjavik and Split this summer season is marketing the new service to transfer passengers from Canada. This is despite the transfer time between the two flights exceeding ten hours in both directions. However, the airline notes travellers can incorporate a stopover in Iceland on their way to Croatia at no extra cost. PLAY maintains operations to Hamilton (also referred to Toronto Hamilton Airport), which is some 64 kilometres southwest of Toronto. PLAY’s CEO, Birgir Jonsson, said, “Split is a dream destination for us at PLAY. It has beautiful landscapes and a vibrant culture. I have no doubt this will be one of our most popular destinations this year. Everywhere we go, we give the competition a run for their money. We want to make travel more affordable, and I am sure our Split services will be well received by Canadians who can also visit our beautiful country of Iceland at the same time”. In 2019, Canada’s Air Transat scheduled and put on sale seasonal one weekly flights between Toronto and Split between June 20 and September 12. However, the service was cancelled some six months prior to its launch for “commercial reasons”.
Anyone has any experience with PLAY? Are they a good airline?
ReplyDeleteFor a low cost they are very bearable even for long haul. Nice seats, bit tight legroom but bearable. Charging USB ports on some of their 320/321NEOs.
DeleteI really don't see how a 10 hour layover is an attractive option, although you could use it to go into Reykjavik and have a walk around if weather permits.
ReplyDeleteIceland makes a big thing about stopping over and visiting Reykjavik. You can do a multi-day stopover.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. A layover would be great way to break up flight too. Hamilton is probably a less stressful and easier airport to transfer from than YYZ. Went to Uni there, only an hour drive to T.O. on the 403.

ReplyDeleteDear Mr. CEO of Play, if you seriously think like you have stated above, why did you plan once weekly flights for 2,5 months only (in total 12) flights to one of the potentially most popular destinations? Is this the Icelandic rumor or what?
Ah, here is another hater. They are flying towards this region for the first time ever, They can always expand if needed. Haters gonna hate.
