Low cost carrier Wizz Air will temporarily suspend flights between London Luton and Ljubljana. The airline will operate its last flight on the route on February 6, with two weekly rotations to resume on April 2. Wizz Air is temporarily suspending over thirty routes across its network during the first quarter of the year due to quality control that needs to be undertaken on Pratt & Whitney engines. Wizz Air’s other Ljubljana service, to Skopje, continues to operate unaffected throughout the first quarter. As previously reported, the budget airline is also temporarily suspending two routes out of Skopje, one out of Niš, and reducing frequencies from the Macedonian capital, as well as Belgrade.
ryanair surely has to jump in on at least one London route now?

DeleteBravo Fraport. Wizz air is cutting the least profitable routes. No Wizz air, no Ryanair in LJU and there must be a reason for that. :-(
DeleteSLO is too good for FR. No comment. At least we have ZAG and TRS nearby. Don’t forget that FR flies to STN from KLU as well.

DeleteFR said Slovenia is covered by their services to Trieste, Klagenfurt and Zagreb, so I heavily doubt it

Especially Trieste because it is actually a Slovenian airport, many of the passengers who travel from there are Slovenians.

I flew into Trieste on 2 January. Hardly any Slovenes on board apart from me and my travel companion.
That is because Slovenes never use other airports and 50% of LJU traffic are Croats.
DeleteWow, after knowing that Emirates, Ryanair and many others are or were in ZAG only because of passengers from Slovenia (deliberately not written Slovenians), now we know also Trieste is a Slovenian airport. DeletePozdrav we all know that LJU wouldn't have more than 500.000 passengers without Croats. And that not a single Slovene uses other airports. Never. And also other airports in Italy, Austria.. all depend on Croats because they love to travel. Analitičar only knows the truth!
DeleteSlovenians travel from LJU, Croats from ZAG. That's it. But we cannot deny that it is convenient for people from southern Slovenia to fly from Trieste. I lived in Koper and I can say that most of the people went to TRS.

DeleteThis is bad. The February holidays in the UK start in mid February so Wizz is clearly reserving aircraft for routes that are more profitable than Ljubljana for that period.

ReplyDeleteIt will be even worse. They only grounded 10-12 aircraft so far out of the 35-40 affected by the problem.
DeleteYes, but they are also receiveing new NEO deliveries next year, which will make up for the 45 aircarft that need to be taken out. And also, they won’t all be taken out of service at the same time.

ReplyDeleteI never EVER fly Wizz Air unless I have no choice, but I am still very happy that they exist because they lower prices for everyone else. For example from London to Ljubljana they add capacity to the market and so British Airways is much cheaper. Ljubljana is one of the cheapest destinations in BA's network.
DeleteSuspension is only temporary. I don't understand why people here are happy Wizzair is gone. Without them there's only Easyjet which flies from Gatwick which is a lot more inconvenient for travellers than Luton. I remember 15-20y ago I used to fly to Graz and seasonally Maribor with Rynair and then they left Slovenia and people were happy. Easyjet used to fly to Ljubljana from Stansted and then they changed to Gatwick. So unless you live around Gatwick airport, Luton is a lot easier to get to and from anywhere in the country. Honestly don't get why people cheer when a low cost airline leaves their country.
ReplyDeleteI newer fly Wizzair because departure time from Luton early morning 6am. I prefer to pay 100£ more with easy jet from Gatwick at normal time. I think Brits also prefer easy jet and BA.

DeleteThey said they are suspending it for a safety reasons as aircrafts need to go for checks. And they will be back in April. I don't understand the whole debate going on up there.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the suspension is now officially permanent, all flights are gone from the timetable, last flight 6-Feb. Really sad to see this, finally the competition started to bring down fares slightly, now again it's only BA & Easyjet..
