All but one of the capital city airports in the former Yugoslavia are expected to see passenger growth during the first month of the 2024 summer season in April when compared to last year, based on available scheduled seat capacity levels. Ryanair will become the region’s largest carrier as it expands its bases in Zagreb and Zadar, opens a new base in Dubrovnik and launches operations to Sarajevo. Wizz Air, which has held the title almost every month over the past year will fall into third place, behind Air Serbia.
Belgrade Airport has the most available seats on scheduled flights in April, standing at 759.632. The figure represents an increase of 7.1% on 2023. Air Serbia will continue to maintain its position as the largest carrier, holding 53.3% of all available scheduled capacity at the airport. Zagreb follows as the second largest with 493.384 available seats on scheduled flights during the month. It represents an increase of 16.8% on last year. Croatia Airlines will retain its position as the largest carrier at the airport, with 35.8% of available capacity. It is followed by Ryanair with 31% of all available seats.
Skopje Airport, which has been impacted by Wizz Air’s frequency cuts, boasts 271.840 seats in April, down 2.8%. Wizz Air will hold a 58.4% share of available seats, while Pegasus Airlines comes second with a 6.9% share. Pristina Airport will have 239.059 available seats, however, it has numerous flights sold exclusively through tour operators which are considered as charters. Therefore, these are not included in the overall scheduled seat capacity. If only seats on scheduled flights are taken into account, the airport sees an increase of 9.4% in capacity on last year. easyJet has the largest volume of scheduled seats, holding a 19.3% share, ahead of Wizz Air with 16.6%.
Podgorica Airport has 177.854 scheduled seats on the market in April. Ryanair is the largest carrier with 15.6% of capacity. Air Montenegro, places sixth in Podgorica based on available capacity, behind the budget airline, Pegasus Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Air Serbia. Sarajevo Airport has 173.693 seats on scheduled flights in April, an increase of 30.4% on 2023 as Ryanair commences operations and becomes its fourth largest carrier. Turkish Airlines is the largest with 15.9% of total capacity. Finally, Ljubljana Airport has 141.011 seats available this April, which is up 28.3% on last year. Lufthansa will be its largest carrier with a 16.4% capacity share, just ahead of Turkish Airlines with 14.4% of scheduled capacity.

DeleteThe seats available are 2.8% down last year but that doesnt mean that the airport cant handle more pax than last year in April. With reduced capacity by Wizz, the LF will be even higer this season, so maybe we will see the same numbers of pax for April like we had last year.

Wizz is expanding big time for three years now. At least in their announcements but somehow it never happens in real life. And the engine issue was only the last 3-4 months of that.
DeleteWizz Air has one of the biggest increases in passengers and capacity in Europe if you compare today's figures to 2019. They are not making it up. The reason is because they grew a lot during Covid times. Even in ex-Yu they grew by expanding SKP and BEG bases.
DeleteHeard few days ago that FR is considering OHD (few YR or/and some seasonal next year depends from IFs), but is hard to believe when TIA is 2,5 hrs by car and there they have ~30 destinations in the moment.Also W6 has more than 60, or more than double comparing to OHD/SKP combined.

DeleteSKP is affected not only from Wizz engine problem, and the passport problem , people are waiting their passports since February and still cant get it , thats why SKP in february had 160k pax , I am sure that March will be the same , maybe from April to be better.

There was an option for fast procedure, i went there on 31 January and my passport was ready on February 2nd. If you dont have money for fast procedure then finish your obligations on time next time!! We knew that the passports had to be changed until February 2024, they announced it 4 years ago. I am very sure that you and many others who just want to complain for evrything had plenty of time to finish their job for new passport. I didnt finish it on time as well but i paid 100 euros and my passport was ready within two days, as it should be by law. Stop commenting this on every post where SKP airport is mentioned cause it really has no logic. I flew in January and in February and all four flights of mine were full as well as many others. DeleteOU is losing its grip, and people are wondering what happened to them. Serbia has its perks, but we have to face it, Croatia is a tourist destination, and no one should wonder why people assume, that OU should have a higher number of passengers that right now.
ReplyDeleteCudos to Air Serbia, they are doing very well, and they do not have to resemble JAT to 100 percent. In the end, JAT was the Yugoslav flag career, a country which was much bigger than Serbia is nowadays.
Hope both OU and Air Serbia can grow, both deserve a bright future. :)
If Air Serbia introduces flights to China by autumn, then I suppose we might see some bigger increase in offered capacity and passengers carried at Belgrade airport.
