Croatia Airlines will commence flights from Zagreb to Berlin, Stockholm, and Tirana this coming summer, complementing its recently announced new seasonal service between Split and Istanbul. Berlin will become the carrier’s third destination in Germany from Zagreb, alongside Frankfurt and Munich, while the Zagreb - Stockholm route resumes after four and a half years. Services to the German and Swedish capitals will run three times per week, while flights to Tirana will operate twice per week. Croatia Airlines previously served the Albanian capital in the early 2000s. As previously reported by EX-YU Aviation News, the flag carrier’s Zagreb expansion will benefit from the airport’s Connecting Capital Cities Incentive Model, with all three cities covered by the scheme.
Destination | Launch date |
---|---|
Stockholm | 20.05.2024 |
Berlin | 21.05.2024 |
Tirana | 14.06.2024 |
Presenting its expansion plans at the world’s largest tourism fair, ITB Berlin, the airline said it will maintain flights to eighteen destinations out of Zagreb this summer, including Amsterdam, Athens (via Dubrovnik), Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Mostar, Munich, Paris, Rome (via Split and Dubrovnik), Sarajevo, Skopje, Stockholm, Tirana, Vienna, and Zurich. International flights will also run out of Split to 22 airports in 21 cities, as it will maintain services to both London Heathrow and Gatwick. From Dubrovnik, the airline will serve seven international destinations, as well as one each from Rijeka and Osijek. The carrier will not restore scheduled international operations out of Brač.
Commenting on its 2024 summer network, Croatia Airlines said, “In addition to our international network, Croatia Airlines will continue to secure air connectivity between Croatia’s cites and regions with its scheduled domestic flights, which include seven airports (Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Pula, Osijek, and Brač). During the summer holiday season, Croatia Airlines will serve a total of 28 international points, or 29 European airports, operating fifty international routes. A total of 17.200 flights are planned and some two million seats put on sale”. The 2024 summer season begins on March 31 and runs until October 27. One of the biggest novelties at Croatia Airlines this summer will be the arrival of the first of fifteen Arbus A220 aircraft, which is expected sometime in June.
Nice!
ReplyDeleteGood move - 3 destinations with large uncle diaspora
DeleteBerlin should be a launching route for A220
ReplyDeleteDo we know when these famous A220s, that are being mentioned everyday here in the comments section, are actually going to arrive?
DeleteThey have, after all, been arriving for the past 11 years:
https://www.exyuaviation.com/2013/11/croatia-airlines-plans-fleet-expansion.html?m=1
I think we already know the MSN and the registration of the first plane
DeleteIt says in the article when the first one is arriving.
Delete"MSN 55290, registracija ce biti 9A-CAE"
Delete@09:20 They are not mentioned every day, they are barely mentioned three times a week. And they are certainly not "famous" - Croatia Airlines has done absolutely nothing to promote itself as a new A220 customer. So the idea that they are scamming the public or doing fake press releases is completely ridiculous.
DeleteSo they will fly to BER and ARN from both ZAG and SPU.
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteYes, there is big demand for travel to Croatia from the
DeleteBerlin-Brandenburg region.
Croatia yes but from the coast, not so much from the continental part.
DeleteBerlin is one of the top unserved routes.
DeleteYes and so is Kuwait from BEG but the route failed. Just because it's populra as an unserved route doesn't mean the market is there. If it was big enough OU would operate more than 3 weekly in summer.
DeleteThe pain is strong with 10:29! 😄
DeleteI don't get these "pain" comments. Anyone who posts something you disagree with, without being rude in any way has "pain" to you. Stupid.
DeleteWell 10:29 is comparing Zagreb-Berlin to Zagreb-Kuwait, so of course disagreement will be harsh. The comment makes no sense
DeleteI think they should use the Dash for BER and TIA from ZAG. And probably they will...
DeleteFinally some new routes by Croatia Airlines from Zagreb!
ReplyDeleteI assume they will all be seasonal?
ReplyDeleteRoutes are lounched depending on Connecting Capital Cities Incentive Model, which means flights chould be year round
Deletecould or should?
DeleteNo, the flights are seasonal only.
Delete"Croatia Airlines will commence flights from Zagreb to Berlin, Stockholm, and Tirana this coming summer".
That does not mean it is seasonal. It simply states they start in summer.
DeleteFlights must be year round because of incentive model. Croatia would never open any route out of Zagreb without that model.
DeleteCheck the facts before you write something.
DeleteOU flies to these 3 destinations until end of October and then bye bye.
Mr allknowing, you have to realize that the winter schedule is opening not before October. So please check facts at OU, so bye bye to you
DeleteSo, they open schedule in October in order to sell the tickets in November?
DeleteGosh, what a genius...
Surprised by the A319 to Tirana. Was expecting a Q400.
ReplyDeleteNot enough Q400s for new routes, they are already too busy with current schedule.
DeleteA319 will be A220 next years they will don't have Dash. This is Dash route but....
DeleteAlso the Tirana route will likely cater to the Albanian diaspora in Slovenia and Croatia, which isn't particularly wealthy, and prices per seat are cheaper on the A319
Delete@14:53 Not true. The Q400 is cheaper to operate then the A319, therefore the prices of the tickets on the Q400 have nothing to do with those for A319. If they deployed A320 instead of A319 then the prices of the tickets would have been cheeper. So, actually its the oposite of what you have said, if they deploy the Q400 then the prices of the tickets will be lower as the operating costs for the Q400 are lower then those for Airbus plus the flight will be more profitable if they have good LF, rather then flying half empty A319.
DeleteThere is no Albanian diaspora from in Slovenia or Croatia, very minimal. It's from Kosovo and North Macedonia.
DeleteSkopje has flights to both Ljubljana and Zagreb, and people from Kosovo also fly out of Skopje for many routes.
DeleteThey need more routes from Zagreb. 18 international destinations (2 served via other cities) from your main hub in summer is very low.
ReplyDeleteMore frequencies too.
DeleteI think they will miss the Q400s. They should continue to operate them or similar (ATR72/42) and use them from Zagreb to with the region and the coast. I believe during the summer, 8 to 10 daily flights to Split and Dubrovnik from Zagreb could work with 4 to 6 daily flight to Zadar and Pula but they would need a solid network with at least daily or better twice daily frequencies to the international routes they operate from Zagreb.
Will be curious to see what fares they offer from TIA, they only loaded the ones to ZAG.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean? They didn't load TIA-ZAG fares?
DeleteTIA-ZAG yes but not if you want to transfer to ZRH, BER, SKP, MUC, FRA... only ofr O&D passengers.
DeleteOh I see. Stupid on their part. Thanks
DeleteIt is not true, some transfers from TIA are available via ZAG, you can check any sunday flights and connections to FRA, SPU, DBV, ZRH...
DeleteBravo Hrvatska!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new routes OU!
ReplyDeleteGood to see something new from them.
ReplyDeleteGood news
ReplyDeleteFinally the national carrier stopped whining and started to do something at its home base. A lot more has to be done but anyway, congratulations for the beginning.
DeleteIsn't it too early for new routes?
ReplyDeletesrsly, you guys are never happy. first you are all saying they are few years too late and are losing to FR because of their stagnation... now when they actually do something are to early... unbelievable
Delete^ it's the same for all topics. It is the Balkan way.
DeleteThis was sarcasm.
Delete@anon 09:38
DeleteFinally someone understood.
I hope they will remember that they have to operate at higher frequencies to compete with LCCs and increase the no. of flights next year significantly. Let alone 2pw, even 3pw is not enough to provide the required connectivity.
ReplyDeleteAgree. They could have a great network connecting people to the coast and the region but they would really need to increase the amount of flights they operate domestically in Croatia. They have the perfect plane for it but just ignore this possibility.
DeleteSeems like OU has no vision, no goal to work towards. They need to have a company mantra, something like OU should be the first airline people in Europe think of when they want to travel to Croatia and aim to make this happen.
Spiffing news guys! A new era in ex-YU Aviation is about to begin.
ReplyDeleteA new era?
DeleteYes ZAG is back as a regional hub.
DeleteIt is? With 18 destinations?
DeleteSchedules are pretty convenient
ReplyDeleteFares are also good (at the moment)
DeleteAgreed, timings / Schedule are actually really good for O&D. No idea how well the flights connect in ZAG to other OU and *Alliance flights
DeleteGood to see growth. Will be interesting to see if they reach precovid levels.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of flights, they won't. They will be under a couple of percentage points. In terms of passengers, we will see. They are operating much more flights from the coast which are usually at full capacity so maybe (although their LF last year saw no improvement).
DeleteFinally Berlin! I hope it will be an all year round...
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteAbout time
DeleteWhat about Dubrovnik?
ReplyDeleteWhat about it?
DeleteThey gave up on DBV a long time ago.
DeleteThey said they are looking at adding route from Dubrovnik this winter. There was a whole article about it here.
DeleteHopefully they expand Dubrovnik
DeleteThey should be connecting Dubrovnik to Zagreb at least 10 times a day during the summer.
Delete1310 if not 20,maybe even 30.
DeleteI told you before, OU is quietly growing and everyone attacked. I am very sure that they will expand next year with the arrival of the A220s but are looking for ways to battle with the Ryanair giant.
ReplyDeleteThere is no any reason to "fight" Ryanair in Zagreb. Next year, Croatia can launch LIS, OTP, PRG, PRN, RIX, HEL and get even more discounts with incentive model.
DeleteRyanair can also get discounts wth this incentive model and launch some of those destinations ahead of OU.
DeleteNot bad at all.
ReplyDeleteNice. Notably avoiding FR routes
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised FR is not flying Zagreb-Stockholm.
DeleteIt's more than I hoped for from Croatia Airlines actually.
ReplyDeletePrague with the Q400 is a no brainer so disappointed this has not been included, otherwise a decent surprise.
DeleteGood choices
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent news for Zagreb. Ryanair+Croatia Airlines growth, and also T' Way. Very good summer ahead.
ReplyDeleteYes they are the big winnters from this.
Delete*winners
DeleteAnd the only ones who will grow in ZAG so obviously they are winners.
DeleteNice to see some positive news from Croatia Airlines lately.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I do find impressive about Croatia Airlines is that they maintain international flights from almost all cities in Croatia, at least during the summer.
ReplyDeleteZagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek and Pula.
And they fly international charters from Brac in the summer too.
DeleteThe market is dependent on international tourism so it's a no-brainer.
DeleteEspecially all the international tourists that come to Osijek.
DeleteInternational from ZAD?
DeleteYes, there is Munich from Zadar.
DeleteAh yes, that odd route that operated for 8 weeks in dead season, just to pick up some subsidies.
DeleteOU should really focus on Split, Dubrovnik and Pula. People only fly to Zagreb to get domestic connections to other airports they really want to go to.
ReplyDeleteI see here your comments all the time, singing the same tune. The only real airport in Croatia for year round air travel is Zagreb, others function only 6 months a year, then go to winter sleep. So, let them do it, if they wanna commit suicide. Good luck with that
DeleteThe structure of the Croatian market is as it is, not much to do about it. They need to have a hybrid model when they keep the hub in Zagreb and try to develop it as much as possible, but at the same time try to get as much leisure traffic to the coast as possible. Which means competing with Ryan and Wizz. They have access to data, so should know better which point-to-point routes could work. Not necessarily feeding LH hubs. They can offer better departure airports and better product. There are people willing to pay a bit more to avoid flying from Beauvais, Charleroi and some other horrible airports.
DeleteOtherwise, they face a long and slow death...
Now all Croatia needs is PragusaOne!!!
ReplyDeleteAll three routes are also unserved from Lju so thats even better for Zag
ReplyDeleteFinally something positive from OU.
ReplyDeleteAlso finally, ZAG has flights to Berlin and Stockholm again!
It'll be interesting to see how Tirana performs. Hopefully the ticket prices will be appropriate.
A step in the right direction at last, these routes are all no brainers. Hopefully next we will see profitable routes such as: increase operations to from coast to LGW or reintroduction of MAN + MAD, LIS & IST from Zagreb Hub.
ReplyDeletehave I missed something? What Croatia Airlines service is there from.DBV to PUY? not seen that in years..Aren't the PSO routes PUY to SPU and RJK to DBV via SPU?.. by the way..both very well run and mostly on time on 34 seat aircraft whenever I have flown them in past 18 months
ReplyDeleteCroatia keep winning!
ReplyDeleteYes, with three more routes will become South Europe number 1 and become winner in pax numbers
Delete
