NEWS FLASH

The Kosovo Civil Aviation Authority recently issued a public call which will enable carriers registered in the European Union to be issued a permit to maintain flights between Pristina and cities in Switzerland, bypassing current regulatory limitations. Switzerland is not part of the European Union and regulates its air traffic rights based on air service agreements. According to the Kosovo Civil Aviation Authority, “In the Air Service Agreement between Kosovo and Switzerland of 2009, the two parties agreed that they can designate an unlimited number of domestic air operators to fly between the two. Since Kosovo does not have a domestic airline, Switzerland has agreed in the Bilateral Agreement for Kosovo to designate an EU or Swiss operator”. As a result, interested carriers from the EU have until early next week to apply with the Civil Aviation Authority in order to be considered for a permit. EU carriers are currently limited to operating flights between Pristina and Basel, as the latter's airport is considered to be within French territory. Switzerland is Pristina Airport’s largest market. Last year, 36% of its passengers were flying to or from Switzerland with Basel and Zurich being the airport’s two busiest routes.

Strange. Trade Air, GP Aviation, Bul Air, Condor are already performing strong in PRN. Oddly seeing Bulgarian Air Charter flights operating for Bul Air to CH and DE.
PRN similar to SKP are strong gasto airports. The Albanian diaspora is huge and what is impressive is that PRN ended 2023 with almost 3,5 million passengers. This figure is expected to rise much more following EU visa liberation. Maybe PRN ends up with a FR base. Who knows?

Bul Air and European Air Charter operates for GP Aviation Switzerland. It's ACMI not own flights.

A virtual airline without an AOC can wet lease an aircraft from a bearly operating airline in this insane world. Hopefully, this sarcastic comedy will end happily since it mocks all common sense of air travel.

Basel Airport is considered 'French Territory'?

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is situated 8km (5 miles) northwest of Basel (in Switzerland), 25km (15.5 miles) south of Mulhouse (in France) and 70km (43 miles) south of Freiburg (in Germany). The airport is wholly within France, but is close to the Swiss and German borders.

@14:11 Why are you lost? The airport is in France. If you go there, you have to cross the border from Switzerland to France.

Basel is located in Mulhouse, hence the name Basel-Mulhouse.

Some of it wrong. The EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg is situated on the territory of France. But: By bi-national agreements and contracts, it has two sectors. That0s unique in the whole world. You can leave or enter the airport from Basel on a tollfree road including bus and taxi services. And you can enter or leave it on the other side from or to France. No "borders" have to be crossed, and both sides of the airport have full airport services. Furthermore, internally, you can cross the (formal) border between France and Switzerland.
