NEWS FLASH

Ryanair has inaugurated flights from Sarajevo for the first time, making Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital its second destination in the country. Operations commenced this morning with its service from Gothenburg, which was followed by its flight from London Stansted. This week, Europe’s largest airline will add flights from Charleroi, Bergamo and Memmingen to Sarajevo, followed by Thessaloniki in June. The carrier will bring a total of 99.596 seats to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital this summer season. Ryanair’s arrival is a direct result of the subsidies provided by local authorities for the introduction of new flights from the city. Ryanair previously said it plans to handle some 200.000 passengers during its first year of Sarajevo operations, saying it is only “just the beginning” for the city, but has ruled out a base for the time being.

Today we had our first Ryanair flight. It was successfully implemented from Gothenburg. We had 194 passengers arriving, and 163 departing..," said Vikić Musicić, director of the airport services.

Quite decent for the inaugural flight, given that the capacity on their Boeing 737-8AS is 189

well, maybe he says 194, because he actually counts babies under 2 years as passengers, in the opposition to airlines, that treat infants as luggage :D

I think this will end up being successful for Ryanair and Sarajevo. Sarajevo from my experience is becoming more popular tourist destination. Airport upgrades are quite nice. Although expect some short term turbulence as Ryanair do their normal thing of cancelling routes but ultimately they will find the right ones that work. I look forward to following the development

I think all of these routes are safe, we'll see how Thessaloniki performs in the summer but they already extended it by a month so the tour operators must be interested
