GP Aviation has been issued a permit to operate between Pristina and Switzerland, following a public call aimed at enabling a European Union-registered carrier to run flights between the two, bypassing existing regulatory limitations. Switzerland is not part of the European Union and regulates its air traffic rights based on air service agreements. According to the Kosovo Civil Aviation Authority, “In the Air Service Agreement between Kosovo and Switzerland of 2009, the two parties agreed that they can designate an unlimited number of domestic air operators to fly between the two. Since Kosovo does not have a domestic airline, Switzerland has agreed in the Bilateral Agreement for Kosovo to designate an EU or Swiss operator”. GP Aviation has now been selected by the regulator for a three-year period, after which the agreement can be extended. The Bulgarian-registered airline is obligated to commence scheduled services from Pristina to Zurich, Geneva, and Basel by June 1 of this year.

LZ-FBA flies from December 2023. Also, instead of 737classics, GP Aviation now leases A320s from European Air Charter, this shows that their LF on most destinations has increased. It will be interesting to track what frequencies they will have next to ZRH and GVA. There is a high probability that they are everyday. Also as far as I remember they had other A320s until recently, now they have replaced them with different machines.

DeleteAh yes, forgot about European Air Charter. Well, Albin Kurti was recently in a visit to Sofia so could not also exclude there are some politics going around, who knows? What is sure is that PRN will most likely surpass 4 million. The traffic it has for its size is insane and you have SKP nearby, but it seems to be a bit in stagnation mode because of the Wizzair issues.

ReplyDeleteAnyone with more information on their appointment as the national carrier of Kosovo? I've seen comments like this a lot here.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone share an opinion on them? What is on board and also what is offered on board, how is their crew? Or in most cases their product is gone? Most flights are with different airlines, I have seen Albawings flying for them as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is much better than flying with Wizz,(My experience, I have flown with both) you get luggage included, the cabin crew speaks Albanian and the food on board has Kosovo-Prices. Bad is, that many flights are delayed and you fly on an old airplane.

ReplyDeleteNothing Swiss about it, just a Swiss GmbH, no AOC. The AOC is based on 30 years old dry leased 737 and few wet-leased 30 year old Airbuses. I thought it was only possible in Africa.

DeleteIt is wholly Swiss owned and also headquartered in Zurich. There is a Bulgarian AOC to access the EU. The reason they came to Kosovo is the local agents. But the circuit leads to Zurich.

What is sure is that they have been operating in PRN for years. It would also be interesting to see how Trade Air are also active in PRN.
The main office is in Zurich. In 2018, they had another 737-300 before they received an AOC in Bulgaria during the pandemic. It was operated by PRN for Aviro Air. That was for a short while. I will look for the machine, if I find it I will upload it here.

DeleteDen största delen av passagerarna som flyger men kommer utanför Kosovo är från Skopje, men även Novi Pazar, Vranje och Niŝ till och med. På motorvägen som kommer från Makedoniens sida ser man massa me bilar från Skopje och som skyndar mot flygplats i Pr.

DeleteCongratulations! Persistence is the key to this success! For all of you here that only complain or throw around with dirt at those that made all this possible by working hard and consistently, I simply recommend to be thankful that there are true hard working people that build a possibility for a Kosovar controlled connection to the rest of the EU instead of external companies trying to rule over this beautiful country! So the money and the taxes stay in Kosovo and are used to expand!
ReplyDeleteMost of the passengers who fly but come from outside Kosovo are from Skopje, but also Novi Pazar, Vranje and even Niŝ. On the highway coming from the Macedonian side, you see a lot of cars from Skopje and rushing towards the airport in Pr.
