Air Serbia has held talks with China Southern Airlines, one of the world’s largest carriers, and inked an agreement with Guangdong Provincial Tourism, ahead of the planned launch of its new service between Belgrade and Guangzhou. “The delegation, led by our CEO Jiri Marek had a highly productive meeting with Mr Han Wensheng, President of China Southern Airlines. During the second day of the visit, our CEO actively participated in the "Guangzhou Aviation Hub High-quality Development Conference" held at Guangzhou Airport. At this prestigious event, Mr Marek had the opportunity to present the Serbian national airline and our upcoming flight plans to the esteemed participants”, Air Serbia said. China Southern Airlines is China’s largest carrier with its main hub in Guangzhou, located in Guangdong Province. With a fleet of over 650 aircraft, it maintains flights over 230 destinations.
Air Serbia also signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with Guangdong Provincial Tourism Holdings. “Since 2015, the Guangdong Provincial Government has actively sought to deepen cooperation in tourism, aligning perfectly with our mission at Air Serbia. Coupled with Guangdong Provincial Tourism Holdings' rich resources and profound influence in the tourism industry, this partnership is set to enhance the tourism market's development and strengthen our cooperative relationship”, the Serbian carrier said.
Air Serbia is set to commence flights to both Guangzhou and Shanghai in the fourth quarter. The airline has said a decision on which of the two will commence first (one in October and the other in December) will depend on slot allocations, with the airline aiming to put tickets on sale by the end of the month. “This visit marks a significant step forward in strengthening our international partnerships and expanding our global reach. We are excited about the future and look forward to fostering closer ties with China Southern Airlines and contributing to the development of the Guangzhou Aviation Hub”, Air Serbia concluded.
This is very significant given that Guangzhou airport alone is as busy as Paris and links up to hundreds of airports in Asia that do not fly to Europe. Making such an agreement in advance will certainly ensure high LF from the first day of operations and is a clear example why China is a much more lucrative market than many others (i.e. YYZ). It is a pity that JU does not have enough widebody aircraft to meet the demand that can come from this deal.

ReplyDeleteThey need more than a codeshare, but a true JV because JU codeshare flights are so expensive. For example, JU's codeshares on some QR flights are triple the QR price. No will buy that.
