NEWS FLASH

The Slovenian Minister for Infrastructure, Alenka Bratušek, has held talks with Turkish Airlines’ CEO, Bilal Eski, in Istanbul over improving Ljubljana’s air connectivity. The two sides explored opportunities for increased operations between the two countries. Turkish Airlines is currently the second busiest carrier operating out of Slovenia behind Lufthansa, handling 126.971 passengers on its service between Istanbul and Ljubljana during the January – August period. The route is currently maintained twice per day by the carrier.

It is against EU policy to for non eu carrier to fly from point to point inside EU, opening EU AOC without EU majority also not possible. Fifth freedom rights for TK from LJU, highly possible!

I can see them doing a joint venture

And judging how they held talks between CEO and minister...something is (hopefully) about to happen

Maybe TK uses this as an opportunity to get an EU AOC

I'm being a bit optimistic, but with the state of LJU...

It seems to me that Slovenia keeps trying to get more connectivity. I haven't kept up with all the tenders and efforts, but I'm no expert, I think their market/population is probably not thr right size. Might be best to have very frequent daily flights to hub airports and connect onwards like we have in smaller US cities.

So, this was just part of other activities and meetings, so probably we can’t really expect something out of it.

I highly doubt the minister would meet the CEO to discuss one weekly leisure flight.
