Ljubljana Airport maintains growth

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport welcomed 127.572 passengers in October, representing an increase of 7.3% on the same month in 2023. During the January - October period, Ljubljana handled 1.262.873 travellers, up 15.7%, although the figure is still down 18.5% on the pre-pandemic 2019. November will prove more difficult for Ljubljana Airport, with scheduled capacity projected to decline 12%.

      British Airways and Wizz's Luton services are discontinued whilst Luxair and Air France are reducing capacity. That's around 10-14 flights less per week

    I think this is the reality for Ljubljana, especially with Ryanair growing in Zagreb. The only way I see to move this numbers up significantly is that someone (U2, W6) base a plane in Brnik. But for that we will probably have to wait for another 2 year to change the government because the current one is incapable of doing anything constructive.

      Previous government has all the options to establish a new carrier - staff still available, low leasing costs, slots and commercial agreements mostly valid. But they failed and rejected all the offers. This government has much more difficult job to do, but I still think Slovenia need a small carrier (with different model than Adria, more like Air Serbia) to improve the connectivity.

      @12:08 previous government had staff that did not want to overnight out of base, high leasing costs (the two Airbus leased A319s were killing Adria), and commercial agreements where airports and handlers started to deny service to Adria due to invoices not being paid on time.

      Staff that didn't want to overnight out of base?! What the hell do you think I was doing every week? Do you even know we had ACMI deals with LH, OS, LX and not to mention the Airbus fleet, where one aircraft was permanently based in PRN. Who the hell do you think flew all these aircraft?

      They went from planned 22 weekly and 4 routes in summer 2020 to just one, 6 weekly this and next summer. Probably has to do something with high fees, but according to fanboys LJU is the cheapest airport in region.

      easyJet has higher cost per passenger meaning their operating model is designed to handle larger costs compared to Ryanair which has the lowest cost per passenger in the aviation industry

    Minus 18.5% compared to 2019 it's a good result!
    No more transit pax now, not many low cost in Ljubljana, many new additional options from nearby airports. I do not understand any complain: Ljubljana is performing well! Just add a strong low cost with a base there and it's top.

      I can not understand your argumentation as positive, just the opposite: low cost carriers are actively chased away by Fraport commercial policy (thus reducing direct connectivity) and nearby airports are all (except GRZ) performing much better. Minus 18,5% in much more than missing transfer share of passengers and this gap will even widen by the end of the year. So I really can not see what is TOP here.

      There are more low cost airlines flying to Ljubljana than before 2019. How exactly are low cost airlines being chased away? The next new routes are going to be low cost again - Eurowings.

      minus 18.5% towards OCT 2019 is not good. October 2019 Adria was gone already, not even sure if LH already flew that month. I know that LX started pretty soon early October.

      Slovenia has 2.1 mio population. I think it had over 5 mio tourist arrivals in 2023. Slovenia is 20 years in the EU. So how come that in October just 4115 passenger passed LJU airport? Or just 2058 passengers left per day LJU. That's really low. If you consider business and the good economy SLO meanwhile has, plus meetings/fairs etc, leisure domestic/foreign, ethnic, sport. Than 2058 passenger is really low, despite knowing that SLO Nr. 1 trade partners are Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria, Croatia. Still Nr. 2 Import partner is China and Novartis/LEK staff most probably uses LX. And we know that many Slovenes depart from ZAG and Italy and that many Slovenes have their houses in Croatia, but I am really astonished that only roughly 2000 in October departed LJU a day. Basically 0.09% of the population per day was travelling by air through LJU. (and this number stays if we consider that 50% were may be foreigners and that LJU Airport Radius potential is probably somewhere around 1.1 to 1.4 mio population). Calculated to 1 month: Around 6% of the population travelled by air. That's not much
      Slovenia should might do studies about air travel potential / reason for such low usage out of Slovenia / how much traffic goes over GRZ ZAG and Italy etc

      Easyjet: STN, LGW, BER
      Transavia: AMS
      Wizz: LTN, CRL

      2025 so far:
      Easyjet: LGW
      Eurowings: DUS, BER (paid by govt)
      Norwegian: CPH (paid by govt)
      Transavia: AMS, ORY
      Wizz: SKP (paid by govt)

      So airlines from 2019 have less routes and new ones are getting subsidies. Bravo Fraport!

      If the airline is paying full Fraport price, then Slovenian subsidy is two times higher than Macedonian one. The problem is not the state subsidy but Fraport pricelist, especially after the end of incentive period.
