NEWS FLASH

Zagreb has introduced a silent airport concept as of last Friday, which aims to significantly reduce noise levels within its terminal by minimising non-essential announcements over the loud-speakers. Passengers are being urged to consult the flight information boards, as well as the interactive kiosks, for the latest status of their flights. Furthermore, travellers can find the information on the airport’s website. Airports are not obliged to make announcements via speakers in order to guarantee that every single passenger receives the information relevant to them, however, it has proven efficient in the past. A number of airports have adopted the silent concept. Regionally, Belgrade Airport also recently became a silent airport.

Ultimately a necessity with bigger airports. Places like Sarajevo and smaller (so TGD and LJU, for example) can afford to do so since there's so few, but with so many flights per day, the speaker system quickly gets clogged)

Weird fuss around this airport "noise". For me that's the background sound of the travel, it adds to the experience. I think the true reason is only cost cut.

    Welcoming this development.
My worst experience with such redundant announcements is at US Airports. An acoustic torture, something every 5 min...

This also helps people with congnitive disabilities, especially kids on the spectrum. My son who is on the ASD spectrum loves airports and is not bothered by the loud speakers. But many kids on the spectrum are sensitive to that noise.

Zagreb airport has terrible acoustics and it’s a very sterile environment either ways. Some music, vegetation and textiles in certain areas would go a long way.

Few years back I had a very long layover in Zagreb and around the check in area there were very little chairs to sit. I had to recheck my luggage so I had to sit in the nearby cafe for few hoursSome part of that hall are almost empty of any furniture or even things like plants. It looked very sterile.

I hope they also disable sound for those digital billboards. They are so annoying, because the same music repeats every minute or so.
