Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport welcomed 89.868 passengers in November, marking a 2.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. It is the first month since March 2021 the airport has registered a year-on-year decline in passenger numbers. During the January - November period, Ljubljana handled 1.352.7413 travellers, up 14.3%, although the figure is still down 17.3% on the pre-pandemic 2019. The slump in traffic is likely to persist into December, with an estimated 9.8% decrease in available seat capacity on scheduled flights.

Catastrophe, are you even a real airport, if you can't maintain a 44 month growth streak?

If we look at Slovenian GDP per capita, they should have 5x more passengers from Ljubljana. On the flip side, Slovenia is beautiful tourism destination.

Even Trieste has more passengers in NOV and in 2025 TRS will overtake LJU an annual basis. It's time to change LJU airport operator if they are interested in everything else than attracting the traffic. Slovenia has to defend its strategic interests and air connectivity is one of them.

We've just seen KLM add 60k seats to the LJU market next year and Eurowings around 30k, plus increases by TK and IB. Fraport is far from good, but we're staying above Trieste for now

Everyone knows that the most important thing is to have more passengers than Trieste. We do not care about connectivity anymore.

You can see ACI methodology about connectivity. LJU is doing bad in all categories and benchmarking except indirect connectivity (via hubs). And even here it's not brilliant because the market is dominated by one single group and fares are extremely high. Direct connectivity is a disaster (this would bring leisure guests, who are spending the money). Schedules are bad as well, as most of departures are concentrated midday. There is no competition at any single route out of LJU. So, putting all together, the situation is bad and it's not improving (in particular in winter).

And in Trieste, as we can conclude from the above, it is absolutely fantastic.

Well ACI only looks at the largest hubs or countries as a whole so of course Ljubljana will be one of the worst if not the worst with such methodology.

It's hard to change LJU operator. Fraport own airport, and this means that Slovenia must buy the airport back.

No, they loaded similar summer schedule as in S24. Maybe they change it later, morning departure looks like a complete success, almost always full.

On the other hand more frequently capacity increase from E190 to E195 for a mid-day flight, so I would say the real winner is a midd-day flight :) Last year Swiss finalised summer schedule around Dec 20.

As a lawyer who knows the situation about LJU concession I must correct everyone above that Fraport is NOT the owner of the aiport, this is non sense. It is not the owner of the aviation infrastructure that is entered in the land register. This would not be possible under Slovenian law at all. The state is the owner of the real estate. It is possible that Fraport was given a right to build and own a building for up to a max of 99 years (e.g. maybe the new terminal) - this I would need to check. But the majority of the real estate with all the buildings belong to the Republic of Slovenia.
