NEWS FLASH
Air Serbia resumed operations to Florence this morning following a one-year hiatus. The carrier previously briefly operated to the Italian city during the summer of 2023. Back then, the majority of the flights were maintained by a wet-leased 100-seat Embraer E190 aircraft. This time around, the carrier will serve the city twice per week with its 72-seat ATR72-600 aircraft. The inaugural flight saw 71 passengers onboard. The airline will further expand its network in Italy this summer with the addition of Alghero in June. As a result, Air Serbia will serve a record ten destinations in Italy this summer season.

Yes, Trieste is perfect AT72 destination. They may lower Venice to 3 pw and add TRS 2 pw.

If they reduce VCE to just three weekly then they might as well shut it down. Venice is a global tourist destination, even their current number of flights is rather embarassing. I mean they barely grew over the years and they've been flying there for a decade... if not more.

TRS has been on and off for over 2 decades. It simply isn't working for JU. Surrounding TRS catchment area is up to 3 daily LJU, 4 pw VCE and 5 pw PUY.

Well, obviously FLR can work. Also, next to Florence there is only Bologna while Trieste has more airports that are stealing its passengers. Also, compare passenger numbers of the two airports, Florence obviously has more potential.
DeleteI know it doesn't mean much but I know 5-6 people who have apartments in Trieste. Even when there were flights they went by car. As mentioned above, the highway is a bigger problem than PUY, LJU or VCE.
We will see what’s happening in the future. Since break even for AT72 is 50%, TRS may work surely 2pw. Better then keep birds idle at BEG. I think biggest problem is lack of crews

DeleteIt seems Air Serbia wants to deploy ATRs with new destinations also when there is no enough need. Air Serbia should instead better plan destinations in the region with more frequencies especially in summer time, such as Banja Luka. I think next destination for Air Serbia would be Kigali or Edinburgh

DeleteWhat is especially impressive is the load to BEG. It means they have decent sales in both directions (point of sale).
In Italy, most of our students study in Florence. Plus a few gastos and the occasional transfer. Enough for a full flight to BEG.
DeleteYet roughly 60% of passengers today were transfers from FLR. At least on this flight there was more than an occassional transfer.

DeleteI work @ BEG and in on our paper it says 36 transfers going to Sarajevo, Podgorica, Bucharest , Athens, Vienna, Thessaloniki and Budapest.

For Genoa and Turin, I think it's too far to fly with an ATR. For those two, a smaller Embraer might be more suitable.

One of Air Serbias biggest disadvantages are low frequencies on existing routes.
It's a shame they didn't increase the frequencies this year as they planned. There were morning flights to Bucharest, Athens. Night flights to Sarajevo, etc.
