NEWS FLASH

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport welcomed the first scheduled cargo service from Urumqi over the weekend, which will be maintained by China’s YTO Cargo Airlines. Operated twice per week with Boeing 757-200 freighter jets, the flights will be maintained with the routing Urumqi - Aktobe (Kazakhstan) - Belgrade - Urumqi. The new cargo service carries primarily e-commerce goods (products purchased by consumers online) as well as auto parts. The first flight (pictured below) was loaded with 24.7 tons of cargo.

Commenting on the new route, the Xinjiang Airport Group, which operates Urumqi Airport, said, “In 2024, trade exchange between China and Serbia reached seven billion euros. As a strategic transport and trade hub bridging East Asia and Europe, Belgrade plays a central role in this dynamic. The launch of a dedicated international cargo route between Urumqi and Belgrade marks a major step forward in enhancing China - Europe trade connectivity. This new service significantly shortens transit times between Xinjiang region and Serbia, lowers logistics costs and boosts transportation efficiency. It also strengthens access to Serbia’s market and those of its neighbouring countries, supporting smoother international trade flows along the Belt and Road corridor”.

To Belgrade obviously. Serbia isn't exporting e commerce products to China.

Most likely, it is empty on the way to China. The small amount that we are exporting goes with JU

No, Serbia's export to China is something less than 1.5 billion dollars, and is mostly made out of ores and raw materials which do not go by plane, which is not so developed export

Also there is Camex for Tbilisi with B738.

How are "they" letting Budapest have all the cargo from China to central Europe when three airlines already fly nonstop from Belgrade to four destinations in China, all of them cargo capable?

Well, now they have most of it, due to BEG's inaction.

We only hear about passenger figures, but cargo is no less important.

I wonder what percentage of cargo in BEG is done by YU. They are in unique position to deliver cargo to Russia and to a lot of ExYu destinations.

Very little I think because they don t do any marketing of those capabilities and second is that there is a massive direct air traffic between China and Russia.

Serbia could send by cargo plums, berries and other agro products. There is a high demand in China and the rate of return is very good. The tech to keep it fresh exists.
