Croatia Airlines has engaged in talks with Slovenia’s aviation stakeholders and regulators over possible forms of cooperation. The carrier’s CEO, Jasmin Bajić, met with representatives from the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Finance, as well as the head of Slovenia’s air navigation service provider Sloveniacontrol. “The representatives of the carrier presented the company's business development to date and possibilities for expanding their network. They were interested in the state's measures so far to increase the level of connectivity and possible forms of cooperation with the state to achieve this goal”, the Ministry for Infrastructure said. It noted that more specific and detailed proposals on other possible forms of cooperation were not presented at the meeting.
Croatia Airlines last held direct talks with the Slovenian government in 2020 and 2023. At the time, Mr Bajić said, “Croatia Airlines is potentially interested in establishing flights from Ljubljana Airport in order to enable passengers from Slovenia to connect to European destinations”. The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Slaven Žabo, noted at the time, “We have had some gain on the Slovenian market since Adria Airways’ bankruptcy, following which we offered certain solutions to react to the demand that was there. However, we had not added any flights to Slovenia because our hubs are nearby and we were more focused on our sales and marketing activities in Ljubljana at the time, which helped us significantly increase our market share in Slovenia”.
Croatia Airlines is in the process of transitioning to an all-Airbus A220 fleet. The process is expected to be completed by 2027. The carrier’s passenger share on the Croatian market stood at 14.1% last year, with Ryanair the country’s busiest carrier. In terms of capacity share, Croatia Airlines held 18.3% of the market, compared to Ryanair’s 27.6%. On the other hand, Lufthansa was Slovenia’s busiest carrier in 2024, with a passenger share of 14.9%. Capacity-wise, it was also the largest, with a share of 16.5%.
This could work if they base 2 planes in Ljubljana.
ReplyDeleteWeakening one`s own hub by opening another one 140 km away... Jesus.
DeleteThey can do exactly what Trade Air has been doing. Base one plane and get money for flying leisure route and charters.
DeleteOvo ima smisla. 2 zrakoplova u Ljubljani, 1 u Podgorici.
DeleteIt would work with a competent airline. Not with jasmine. Or if by some miracle let's say it works OU basing aircraft in LJU and serving Slovenia. Then all it will show is that OU failed in their own country and ran away from Ryanair. But based on OU management history it will just be another source to take taxpayer money. If LOT did this in Slovenia it would be more promising.
DeleteSlovenia needs it's own airline.

You are forgetting the collective bargaining with the crews and operational problems this would cause. It's going to be very very difficult
DeleteNot necessarily. Within EU, they can hire anybody, so they ca hire slovenian crews who will be more than happy to work from home base. Salaries are more or less the same, taxation even lower in Slovenia, so theoretically, not difficult at all. The other story is totally incompetent and useless OU which would probably do it, if at all, the worst possible way
Delete"Salaries are more or less the same" - not even close.
DeleteSalaries in Croatia on average grew min 50 % during last year and are very close to Slovenian. In particular, air traffic, always in top 3 in Croatia and no diferrence with ex Slovenian (because currently there are very few options in Slovenia). Half of the pilots in Lauda Zagreb are Slovenes. I doubt they would be there if you were right 🙂
DeleteWhat now? Croatia airlines Slovenia or airBaltic Adria?
ReplyDeleteThey are both in the EU so no need to have a different company.
DeleteThey could use the same AOC, but they need different brand. Croatia airlines as Slovenian flag carrier? Forget it.
DeleteWho says they'll be Slovenian flag carrier. FYI only people like us care about things like that, not the 99.9% of passengers.
DeleteWe’ve heard this story before. Meetings every few years, but no real action. Unless the Slovenian government subsidizes them, I doubt they’ll do much.
ReplyDeleteThe Slovenian government doesn’t subsidise anyone. The Slovenian taxpayer does.
DeleteAccording to rumors this time is more serious. But of course they expect a lot of money. It seems HR government money is not enough any more for survival.
DeleteI guess Croatia Airlines needs to get more creative if they want to compete.
ReplyDeleteThis one would actually be a good decision for both OU and Slo
ReplyDeleteWhen you hear Slovenian government and Croatia airlines are in talks you don’t even need to read the article to know absolutely nothing will happen from this. Two of the most unserious sides in the Ex-yu aviation sector.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteTrue.
DeleteInability to reach a business deal is not an indicator of seriousness. It just goes to show that the parties' position is far apart. If you opt to comment, try and say something deeper.
DeleteWonder if they were the ones who applied for subsidies?
ReplyDeleteI doubt they would meet after the tender ended.
DeleteNot only Croatia, LOT too has held talks with the government a few weeks ago
ReplyDeleteBravo Fraport.
ReplyDeleteFor what exactly?
DeleteShould have just merged with Adria 15 years ago when there was a plan to do it.
ReplyDeleteOnly if a new airport was built halfway from Zagreb to Ljubljana. Otherwise it makes no sense whatsoever.
DeleteThey have exactly such airport.
DeleteYupp, but that is none of the two with regular traffic.
DeleteHahahahahahahahahahahahaha, not enough to feed LH in Vrankvurt and Minken from every single village in Croatia, they received orders to do it from Ljubljana as well. Maybe even Maribor. Mostar will be next. With leased (probably even double-leased, like Dash), most expensive on the market paid by croatian poor people. Brilliant strategy. Danke Deutschland!
ReplyDeleteMost expensive on the market, missing bright and shiny A220
DeleteThere is nothing wrong with cross-subsidising your Zagreb operations by making a profit in Ljubljana.
DeleteThere is everything wrong being a feeder for peanuts on the market like Croatian, resulting in huge losses you have to "cross-subsidising", insted having your own network, own feed, entire (much bigger) fleet feployed, and much better results, including financial. So EVERYTHING is wrong in OU. And this case clearly shows it and confirms it.
DeleteA220 is not the most expensive aircraft. Bullshit propaganda by Embraer promoters.
DeleteYeah right. That's why losses and debts already sifnificantly grew in Q1. Because they operate the cheapest one 🙂 And the only thing I am promoting is to stop kissing fat german ass and making more and more losses doing it, with single type fleet would it be Airbus, Embraer or Ilyuhshin. If you can't understand it, I feel sorry for you. But I am sure you know it very well but trying to void what I say in the line of duty. With orders from Buzin, Središnjica or both.
DeleteYou understand that if OU ordered E2 loses would be even bigger? Not only to mention MAX. Eventually in short term loses would be smaller if they ordered A320neo.
DeleteBlah blah, središnjica, Buzin, kahva, Bajić, HDZ... Sorry pozdrav but these are not magic words which would make you nonsense ideas logical.
Who ever ever mentioned E2?
DeleteWho ever ever mentioned MAX?
How dare you lying again and accusing me for something I never ever even thought about, let alone said or wrote?
The answer is, once again, you are here to spread lies and to manipulate in order to advocate crime and corruption in OU.
You even said it yourself in your last paragraph. All those in charge for disaster that goes on for 3 decades, and everyone can see it, you call blah blah.
And to your blah blah I respond:
Tika-tak. Tika-tak
My point is, A220 is relatively cheap aircraft for what you getting for.
DeleteYou are crying because someone is "lying" (I said NOTHING about you) while you are actually lying about me. Shame on you.
P.S. you are probably projecting what you did on other people to feel better.
Slovenia still has aviation stakeholders ?
ReplyDeleteAlenka and Zmago 🤣
DeleteCroatia Airlines' market share is shrinking at home. Not sure they’re in a position to help Slovenia when they’re struggling to compete with Ryanair.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, Ljubljana is an easier market because there is no proper competition.
DeleteIsn't it too early?
ReplyDeleteOU will still make heavy losses if they go ahead with this
ReplyDeleteThat is guranteed.
DeleteOU better concentrate on strengthening its position in ZAG.
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteSounds exciting. Hope it happens.
ReplyDeleteAgree. This could improve LJU's connectivity. Good news.
DeleteRoutes like Tirana, Sarajevo, Rome and Prague could be launched by Croatia Airlines from Ljubljana.
ReplyDeleteRome nonstop from Ljubljana but not Zagreb
DeleteBut they proposed Frankfurt. :-)
DeleteSeriously?? So another LH feeder flight so LH can use its own equipment on other routes.
DeleteDid they propose Frankfurt or this is another Pozdrav lie?
DeleteLaki je malo nervozan, ha?
Delete🤣 Tika-tak. Tika-tak
Yes, they proposed Frankfurt, Zurich and much more. :-)
DeleteSounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteCould be model that Air Serbia can try in SJJ and SKP as well.
The analogy would be Air Serbia starting operations from Novi Sad.
DeleteThey should have done this in October 2019!
ReplyDeleteSkopje would be a better base for them in the region.
ReplyDeleteDid't Kucko have this idea of opening bases in other cities?
ReplyDeleteYes, but his plan was for Skopje, Sarajevo, Pristina and Tirana, which made much more sense at the time. Not Ljubljana.
DeleteWould’ve been if the AeroMak idea was launched.
DeleteAeroMak is owned by JU not OU.
DeleteAeromak's application for an AOC was denied in December 2009. The CEO hired by Jat Airways for Aeromak, was sacked in the same month after misusing the airline's funds.
DeleteIf this went ahead, would this be the first time Croatia Airlines has ever flown from Ljubljana?
ReplyDeleteScheduled flights, yes.
DeleteThere were some charters, even in Adria times.
DeleteIf they start flights they will definitely launch Zurich and relieve Swiss. You can see by the fact that Swiss is only sending wet lease equipment to LJU this summer. And with the huge pilot shortage at Swiss, I can guarantee you they would give this route up to OU. Would not be surprised if the same happens with other LH members.
ReplyDeleteSwiss is sending wet-leased planes (Helvetic, Air Baltic) to many destinations for many years. But those flights are Swiss flights, not codeshares. It's part of their business model. They don't invest in their own fleet and crews for expansion.
DeleteA220 fleet of LX has enough pilots, but they face engine issues
DeleteThey lack A320/A321 pilots
Both LOT and Croatia were invited for the talks, not about subsidies, but about a Joint Venture, as described many times in the past. The joint venture will be viable for EU once the first public tender runs out in October, as it's clear it didn't bring the results wanted. Let's remember that ministry has always said the following with every tender:
ReplyDelete"“In addition to conducting the public tender, we are also studying options that will improve Slovenia's air connectivity in the long term, as we are aware of the short-term effects of a time-limited public tender. We are open to various forms of cooperation with airlines that would help increase air connectivity in Slovenia in the long term and we are interested in discussing possibilities for cooperation”"
If I could chose, I would go for LOT, much healthier and bigger. I can imagine them stationing 737 for charters in the summer too
DeleteNot sure which destinations could work. ZRH MUC FRA flights would need to be heavily subsidized, as my guess is, that probably 33 to 40% of the passengers are ending their journey in ZRH MUC FRA. The rest is transiting and from a 800 EUR ticket LJU ZRH SFO return u wld probably get around 80 EUR max for LJU ZRH LJU legs.
ReplyDeleteOr 250 EUR LJU ZRH AGP probl 90-100 EUR as well
Novartis travel ZRH LJU has special deal. Lots of volumes but yield not really great
We had Novartis deal Business class ZRHJFK return in 2018 for 1800 CHF
So what else could be served? And who promotes the flights? OU? Their marketing dept is not really convincing....
Thanks very much An.10.48, you've just explained perfectly why OU is loss making midget : from 800 euro ticket they get around 80. And for those 80 they LEASE bright and shiny. And doing it they sing Danke Deutschland. And when you say it's wrong, bots and uhljebs starting attacks on personal basis. Sad but true.
DeletePIR
Stop with conspiracies.
DeleteLOL. Millions of euros of losses and debts are hardly conspiracy. Except for good spineless soldiers of the Party
DeleteThat's not a conspiracy. What is on the other hand a conspiracy is you calling everyone who has different opinion an uhljeb.
DeletePlease stick to OU. I am not the topic today. Or ever. But you are so pathetic and helpless defending crime, corruption and incompetence that the only way out is going personal on me. Just go on with it, because I couldn't care less and whatever your lies are and whichever poison you spit out, I will keep on talking the truth.
DeleteW, is the answer.
ReplyDeleteA few subsided W routes from LJU, to a few unserved cities and everyone be happy.
+1
DeleteThe airports are too close togeather
ReplyDeleteSo? You have many flights from LJU and ZAG to the same destination and they manage just fine.
DeleteThe markets are very different.
DeleteThe markets are very similar, not diferrent and especially not very diferrent
DeleteI never understood why they didn't start fights from LJU earlier. They could have been the first to jump in and take full control of Slovenian market.
ReplyDeleteAt the time they said it was too early. Now 6 years later, when the market mostly consolidated, they have decided the time has come...
DeleteJasmin pio kahvu. Dok nije stigla depeša od gazdi iz Vrankvurta.
DeleteIt's October 2019, and OU has a smart CEO; they base one Dash-8 in Ljubljana and cover the loses, such as Munich, Brussels, Frankfurt and Zurich. And the rest is history
ReplyDeleteExactly. It is now 6 years too late.
DeleteIt's never too late da ispiješ kahvu
DeleteOU would probably just send a bus to Ljubljana 3 times a week in the summer.
ReplyDeleteDo you really think they are capable to do it?
DeleteNo
DeleteThey are not capable of making ZAG a hub and yet they want to fly out of LJU.It’s really sad what OU has come to and I am not sure for how long they are going to be able to continue like this.
ReplyDelete+100
DeletePlenty of us who understand aviation are aware what a failure and disaster OU is. I've been speaking about it for years now, and that's why they have a guy assigned to spit on everything I say, everywhere, within half an hour. He(she) is not even only responding to my posts trying to void everything I say, but very often speaks about me without being "provoked" or challenged, as for example today, 12.37, calling me liar. Fuj.
DeletePIR
Pozdrav I think you need to take a break buddy. This is not good for your health.
Delete15.31
DeleteThanks for taking care of my health, buddy! 🙂 And in order for you to take break from worries and concerns on my health, with great pleasure I can inform you that a year ago, on my last detailed medical, I had 82 out of 84 blood parametres within limits. Remaining 2 were within +/- 20 %. Last blood pressure control, 3 weeks ago, 128/75. Prescribed medications/regular therapy: ZERO.
Anyhow, good attempt to swift focus from disaster called OU to me and my health. Unfortunatelly for you, attempt is unsuccessful
