Wizz Air is further increasing frequencies between Belgrade and Larnaca with the low cost airline to add another two weekly services between the two cities for a total of eight weekly. The airline had initially planned six weekly rotations between the two cities throughout the summer but will now increase them to eight weekly during the peak travel period, between July 25 and September 15. All services will be maintained with either the Belgrade-based Airbus A321neos or the Larnaca-based A321s. Wizz Air will compete against Air Serbia’s double daily service between the two cities, bringing the total number of flights to 22 weekly. In 2024, a total of 190.481 passengers flew between Belgrade and Larnaca.

ReplyDeleteLooking at some of the departure times it shows how busy and important LCA is for them. Wizz Air is definitely positioning itself quite nicely on this market.

DeleteAgree and with 8 A321 a week which is 1840 seats each way it is giving ASL a run for its money.

Hopefully this jump in capacity will help prices stay relatively reasonable.
I can't help but think that this is a positive (for us) side effect from the Iran Israel conflict that has freed capacity by W6 which otherwise will be on LCA-TLV route.

DeleteYes but the TLV segment is quite short so they would have to move everything around in order to make room for BEG. I think this came from elsewhere, maybe they cut something else like AUH.

DeleteHonestly I'd rather have Cyprus Airways launch flights. Most Serbian tourists anyway end up going to Agia Napa which is on the other side of the island from PFO.
DeleteAlso, they have regular shuttle buses running there from LCA, I don't think there are any from PFO to Agia Napa.
Crazy to see so many flights. I remember once upon a time we were happy to get a summer seasonal terminator flight (JU068/069). Now we will have more than triple daily. Surreal.
Well, Serbian tourists go to the Turkish part of island, too.
DeleteSadly, Serbians have discovered Cyprus. It was amazing when I went there three years ago: cheap JU flights and barely any people.

DeleteMy man, Cyprus was discovered roughly 10 years ago.. in last 3 to 4 years it is literraly new Montenegro or Halkidiki..
DeleteThree years ago Cyprus was already a thing. It started becoming extremely popular the moment Wizz Air introduced flights. Before that fares were extremely expensive, even after JU was rebranded in 2013. Lowest fare for the middle of the night flight was €240. Mind you, daytime flights to LCA were only introduced right after covid.

DeleteIt seems to me that the prices for LCA are among the highest when you combine Wizz and Air Serbia. And what's funny, people are still going to be buying it. One of the reasons can be that there is still some Russian population there. Last year in November, and last year in September when I travelled, there were so many of them.

I was in Cyprus 2 weeks ago with family (with Air Serbia of course, since Wizzair cancelling the flight for multiple people trip was not worth the risk ) and that country is so amazing. 7.5 eur for umbrella and 2 chairs on all beaches in country (state law), perfect weather, warm sea 🏖️ No wonder it is so popular
