NEWS FLASH

Air Canada has expanded its reach in the former Yugoslavia by adding more codeshare flights to the region. The Canadian carrier has added its flight numbers and designator code onto Austrian Airlines’ daily morning service between Vienna and Belgrade (AC6178/79), as well as five weekly morning rotations between Vienna and Pristina (AC6176/77). Air Canada already codeshares on Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt and Munich to Belgrade, while the agreement marks its first codeshare service to Pristina.

They should be more proactive and launch seasonal BEG service.

I am curious why JU is thinking about launching Toronto if there no high (even seasonal) demand

There is demand from exyu gastarbeiters living in Canada.
AC is interested in serving Canadian tourists visiting southern Europe for holidays, cruises etc.
Unfortunately there is little interest among these people in visiting Serbia.

Demand is not there. AC flying to ATH double daily both from YYZ and YUL 1 of two daily flights with B777. That’s what demand is. We really want these flights but if they can’t fill a B788 it’s not worth it.

Anon 14:26 AC is interested in serving Canadian tourists only? That's interesting.

Canadian tourists bring in the money because they spend a lot. A gasto route to Belgrade doesn't.

@13:54, If you mean due to FA strike, that's over. Air Canada does fly to hinterlands of Central/East Europe from Toronto to Prague this summer, and my uneducated guess would be Budapest or Berlin as the next addition. Belgrade was not on the map of potential destinations at the previous AC presentation. Their JV with LH Group seems to be the tool of choice for other destinations in that part of Europe.

Is this new Belgrade codeshare just adding another option to existing FRA/MUC codeshares or preemptive move in case Air Serbia finally decides to launch Toronto?

Can someone please explain, adding a codeshare cost money or? If not why it is such a big news?

I'm also wondering cause even without codeshare you could book these flights and connect seamlessly

Probably to reroute certain amount of bookings to YYZ-VIE sector, instead of LH hubs.
