Ljubljana Airport completes taxiway system upgrade

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport today opened its new Taxiway J, marking the completion of a one-and-a-half-year upgrade of the airport’s taxiway system, which also included the overhaul of part of Taxiway A. Located 250 metres from the threshold of Runway 12, Taxiway J measures 170 metres in length and 30 metres in width, connecting the runway with the parallel Taxiway A. The new addition also provides extra space for the maintenance of airside surfaces and other airport infrastructure. The project involved asphalting nearly 9.000 square metres of new surfaces for Taxiway J and renewing close to 20.000 square metres of asphalt on the existing Taxiway A. The old asphalt removed from Taxiway A was recycled at an asphalt plant and repurposed at other locations. For illumination, approximately 35 kilometres of cabling and 59 new LED lights were installed on Taxiway J, integrated into a dedicated control system. In addition, ten new signs were erected to clearly mark the new taxiway.


Commenting on the project, Boštjan Šijanec, Director of Infrastructure at operator Fraport Slovenija, said, “The total investment in the construction of the new Taxiway J and the renovation of part of Taxiway A amounts to 5.35 million euros. This project represents a significant upgrade to Slovenia’s airport infrastructure and reinforces our position as the most modernly equipped airport in the region. With its successful completion, we have, in line with modern standards, provided an appropriate turning area for the largest aircraft at Runway 12’s threshold, marking an important step in enhancing the airport’s operational capabilities”.

    they added TWY nobody needed, nobody asked for and they call it a major upgrade? Apron looks like plane graveyard, full of defunct aircraft

      First of all, not many aircraft are parked there nowadays maybe 2/3, even the one part at solinar platform is now almost clear (just 2 aircrafts).

      Second, even if they don’t have much traffic the taxi way was build solely if someone misses taxiway G and it happens many times if plane is too heavy, then they need to backtrack etc. if someone awaits on A for rwy 12, so stop being smart if you don’t know the background and what it looks like today.

      Anon 16.09, building 6 m € worth of taxiway just to enable straight in taxiing if high speed taxiway is missed, give me a break. In 30 years and some change in aviation, I've seen overun in LJLJ maybe ten times. High speed exit for RWY 12 is 1000% more needed. But yes. It's private company and it is obviously seen in that shithole of terminal (no wonder it reminds of Hofer/Aldi supermarket).

      Yes, like the terminal which was way too late. It looked like the 60s when all of Eastern Europe (like Poland, CZ etc) had already upgraded them 20 years ago.

    Sorry for off topic... does anyone know if agean will continue maintaining its flights to Ljubljana next year? Flights are scheduled only till late march 2026. All other aegean destinations have already scheduled operations after march 2026.

    Is there any way I could somewhere see the bird view of the new taxiway? I have a hard time imagining how it looks and where it is.
