Senior representatives of civil aviation authorities from the region met in Podgorica this week to discuss a wide range of common issues in the field of civil aviation and to strengthen regional cooperation. The meeting touched on the idea of establishing a Regional Training Centre for civil aviation professionals and creating a shared pool of experts available to all countries in the region to ensure more effective implementation of the highest standards.

The directors of the civil aviation agencies of Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania agreed that joint planning and coordination contribute to more efficient alignment with, and implementation of, European and international standards. Discussions also focused on preparations for participation at the upcoming Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which will bring together representatives from across the globe in Montreal from September 23 to October 3.

Another topic on the agenda was the coordination of activities ahead of the next meeting of the Joint Committee of the European Common Aviation Area Agreement (ECAA JC). This platform holds particular importance for EU candidate states, as it serves as a bridge towards full integration into the European aviation system. Participants highlighted the importance of continued training and professional development, as well as mutual support among experts, to enable faster exchange of knowledge and experience.

Montenegro’s Civil Aviation Agency Director, Ivan Šćekić, together with his team, welcomed his counterparts Mirjana ÄŒizmarov (Serbia), Zorislav Ivanović (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Maksim Et’hemaj (Albania) and Drago Stojanoski (Macedonia).
