Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport is set for strong passenger growth this coming winter, driven by the launch of three new routes and expanded capacity by several carriers including Swiss and Wizz Air. Although adjustments to the network remain possible in the lead-up to the 2025/26 winter season, which runs from October 26 to March 28, current projections indicate the airport will have over 103.198 additional seats on scheduled services compared to last winter, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%. Capacity growth is expected to be steady across the season, with increases of 21.7% in November, 22.4% in December, 16% in January, 14.7% in February and 16.5% in March. Capacity levels will be at around 80% of the last full pre-pandemic winter of 2018/19 when Adria Airways was still in operation.
This winter, the airport will welcome flights from two new Spanish destinations - Las Palmas and Barcelona - the latter being one of its busiest unserved routes. easyJet will introduce a new service from Manchester, while KLM will operate its first winter season in the Slovenian capital following its summer launch. Aegean Airlines and GP Aviation will extend their seasonal services from Athens and Pristina throughout the winter. Additionally, airlines such as Wizz Air, Swiss and Turkish Airlines will increase capacity or frequencies on existing routes compared to last winter. In contrast to the 2024/25 season, Transavia will no longer operate flights to the airport.
The projected growth comes amid the ongoing ninth tender call by the Slovenian government aimed at improving the country’s air connectivity by offering subsidies for the launch of new routes. Slovenia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Alenka Bratušek, said, “Air connectivity has significantly improved over the past year, especially during the summer season. Slovenia is now among the countries with the highest percentage growth in air traffic. However, we are still not at the level we were during the Adria Airways era. For this reason, we have allocated more funds to support air connectivity than there were applications received. Naturally, we cannot force anyone to apply”. She added, “We were particularly hoping for an additional application for Brussels flights, which would also help reduce state costs related to official travel to the EU’s administrative centre. Overall, we are not dissatisfied with the progress made in boosting connectivity, but we are not entirely satisfied either. These public tenders will continue. Fraport has also contributed to improving connectivity by lowering airport charges, so together we have managed to steer things in the right direction”.
It’s fantastic to see more connections to Spain
ReplyDeleteVery positive trend and most of the new routes have good potential to stay long-term. Did anybody noticed that Aegean seems to be gone for summer 26? What's going on here? And the statement of the minister is strange: "We were particularly hoping for an additional application for Brussels flights, which would also help reduce state costs related to official travel to the EU’s administrative centre." How she was expecting application from Brussels if the subsidies are allowed only for NEW routes?
ReplyDeleteWho cares about ATH. Fly via FRA!
DeleteIt has not been put on sale / in the system yet, the same as Split.
DeleteMany destinations of A3 for next summer haven't been loaded yet to the system.
DeleteAegean hasn’t finalized their summer schedule yet. They’re not gonna leave.
DeleteThis summer they are seeing improved passenger numbers compared to last year, so I doubt they would leave next year.
Delete@9:19 I didn't quite get this, is Ljubljana getting a flight to Split next summer?
DeleteAegean hasn't put their next year summer flights from ATH to SPU yet.
DeleteAegean hasn't put their next year summer flights from ATH to dozens of airports yet.
DeleteThat happens every year.
rumours saying Aegean increasing ATH-LJU to 3 weekly next summer..
Delete^ At least.
DeleteAnon @1709 Where this info is coming from? I am worried because Aegean loaded ZAG and VCE in the system months ago, but not LJU.
Deletethey wouldn't be flying from 1st to 25th march and then not continue it into peak season.
DeleteDid she just say they want another airline to Brussels for the convenience of beurocrats and their pockets?
ReplyDeleteShe did...actually goverment pays for their tickets, so...it is not clear if they did the calculation...cheaper to pay all those travels to Brussels via FRA...or ...
DeleteBravo Fraport!
ReplyDeleteI like the vintage photo of Pristina airport from 1968
ReplyDeleteGood to see some positive news from LJU
ReplyDeleteThe airport is doing its best, but the geography and small market size limit what can be achieved. An LCC based here, even on a smaller scale, would make a big difference.
DeleteAdmin does W6 increases SKP-LJU route during the winter ? And how much pax are expected to be handled over the winter period ? Thank you in advance
ReplyDeleteThey increased it from 3 to 4 per week and will now be using their A321 planes instead of A320. The capacity for each month will be around 7800 when A321s start flying in november.
DeleteImpressive!
DeleteIn July their LF was above 98 %, we could for sure see 5x per week next summer.
Delete10:05 thank you for the information provided
DeleteProbably next summer we could see 5x weekly , with this LF it is impressive , plus adding A321 is amazing!! Probably this W6 route will hold the highest LF in the Ex-yy network
its crazy they will soon reach 100k pax per year ...
DeleteHas anyone applied for the subsidies? When is the deadline for the current tender?
ReplyDelete25 October

What are the increased frequencies and capacities by Swiss and Turkish?
ReplyDeleteWhen does the ninth tender close?
ReplyDelete25 October

So this ninth tender is different than the previous ones?
ReplyDeleteIt isn't
DeleteIt is.
Delete^ What is different?
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2025/09/state-launches-new-airline-subsidy-call.html
DeleteJudging by one way pricing for all three new routes, I say that they are all selling very well. Manchester is a surprise, honestly I would think that double daily to London would be first step for EasyJet...but a welcome addition nontheless
ReplyDeleteAirBaltic should really add more frequencies to LPA. Some flights are already sold out, and in February they are selling round trip tickets for more than 1200€.
DeleteI'm sure they will do so next winter, I think there is a strong possibility of them stationing A220 in Lju if PSO tender comes out
DeleteIt’s great to see Ljubljana Airport finally gaining momentum again.
ReplyDeleteNice growth figures but still disappointing that we’re only at 80% of pre-Adria levels after so many years. It really shows how big of a void Adria Airways left behind.
ReplyDeleteMore Spanish destinations are a smart move. The leisure market from Slovenia is strong. Malaga next please.
ReplyDeleteWho could apply for the additional Brussels flights?
ReplyDeleteSN Brussels maybe? Also Transavia, TUI or FR.
DeleteNobody until Brussels (SN) is flying this route. The subsidies are allowed only for NEW routes.
DeleteI am really curious how the LPA route will perform.
ReplyDeleteJudging by prices and that some flights are sold out it's doing amazing.
DeleteIts almost full, some flights are already sold out
DeleteHow, if there is no demand?
DeleteWill there ever be a LJU-SJJ route again? And how could it most likely become reality?
ReplyDeleteProbably at the same time as Ljubljana-Vienna...so never
DeleteLJU is a joke, even with a 'winter' myself and most other residents in Ljubljana are going to other airports. I have 5 trips booked over winter, 3x to Africa, 1x to South America and one to Portugal. Only one, to Portugal, will I leave/return to LJU, the rest have me going to Italy for the 50%+ discount by flying from one of their airports.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. We are now better for knowing how frequently you travel, and where to..
DeleteIt seems they were trying to make a point that Slovenia's air connections are expensive, and tbh they are right.
Delete@10:10 maybe translate the comment if you dont understand the point
DeleteI think Aegean has space for one weekly HER and RHO flight from LJU.
ReplyDeleteIf not Aegan, Wzz for sure...
