NEWS FLASH

Low cost carrier Volotea is discontinuing three seasonal Croatia routes. The airline will no longer maintain flights from Dubrovnik to Bari and Lyon, both of which were served twice per week this summer, as well as between Split and Strasbourg, which was maintained on a weekly basis. The carrier will also reduce frequencies between Split and Lyon from two to one weekly next summer. In total, Volotea will maintain fourteen Croatia routes during the 2026 summer season, five of which are from Dubrovnik and the remaining nine from Split. On average, during the height of the 2026 summer season, the carrier will boast thirty weekly flights from Croatia, offering an average of just over 5.000 seats from the country per week. Further changes at this early stage remain possible.

I guess they are cutting because the European economy is doing so well. Where is that one guy to tell us about all the prosperity we are living through right now.

They're cutting because Croatia is no longer the affordable destination it was years ago, that's why routes from Europe to Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, etc. are growing so fast

In the phrase "value for money", value is not the problematic part in Croatia. Money is the problem. Quality of services increased significantly, but they are too expensive, despite its value

Split will have record capacity this winter, and many other airports in the region too. So much about European eternal winter coming to get us all... We will see about next summer, but it doesn't look dire at all so far.

Ah yes, winter. SPU and DBV always do well until winter comes and then cuts follow. Also, DBV is giving large subsidies for winter flights. Airlines are there because of that, not because of organic demand.

It's hard to operate SPU or DBV during winter, given their size and almost complete absence of tourism. They become Niš/Mostar like, really difficult to maintain traffic with no subsidies during winter. On the other hand, they earn so much during summer I guess they should re-invest a portion into winter operations.

More than 3.2 million passengers passed through the airport during the first nine months of this year, or 7% more than in the same period last year = + 200,000 passengers.

Many people here in 2024 have also written that Dalmatia has become far too expensive, the European economy is getting weaker and tourist numbers will drop sharply.
