NEWS FLASH
Austrian Airlines has announced the abrupt termination of its wet-lease partnership with Swedish carrier Braathens Regional Airlines for three 72-seat ATR72-600 aircraft with immediate effect. This decision is reportedly due to Braathens having failed to pass an operational audit. According to Austrian Airlines, the Swedish carrier no longer meets the operational standards required by the Lufthansa Group.
The decision will impact the carrier’s operations to Zagreb and Belgrade. The airline was to deploy the aircraft on a daily service to Zagreb until the end of the year, while the type was scheduled on eleven flights to Belgrade over the same period. Today, Austrian Airlines has swapped the Zagreb service to an Airbus A320, while the ATR flight to Belgrade is being operated with an Embraer E195. At the time of writing, the airline has only implemented further changes for tomorrow, with the Zagreb service to be operated by an A320, while Belgrade did not have the ATR scheduled for any December 17 flights. "For the coming days and weeks, the airline is adjusting its schedule. Some routes may see fewer flights or temporary pauses. Others will use Austrian Airlines’ own planes or help from partners like Edelweiss and other Lufthansa Group airlines", the carrier said in a statement.

They leased A220 from AirBaltic, tomorrow I'm scheduled to fly OS to ZAG and it says A220 now
ReplyDeleteTomorrow it's showing
DeleteOS 603
operated by Austrian Airlines
AIRBUS A320
Just checked again and you are right. At around 11 it showed A220 operated by air baltic, seemingly they are adjusting it even more
DeleteAll morning it said A220 from airBaltic but it has now been swapped to an A320. But they are stupidly not lowering prices so it will be flying empty I guess?? I would book the ticket if they dropped the price below 100 euros.
DeleteAirBaltic regularly flies for OS, I saw them a lot at AMS
DeleteThis sounds perfect for ETF Airways, maybe they should speed up the acquisition of more ATRs now... Not a single wet lease turboprop offer on EU market now with SkyAlps still being inspected and seemingly BRA failing the audits
ReplyDeleteAustrian needs a replacement ASAP during the busy holiday season.
DeleteScandinavian carrier "no longer meeting LHG standards" Hmmmmm and LOL
ReplyDeleteWhy, you think there's some other reason? Could be, just don't know how they benefit from this sudden change...
DeleteDoes being Scandinavian automatically make everything perfect?
DeleteBraathens: game over

DeleteBRA has been operating for OS for very long time, almost two years. Of course it doesn't mean that Scandinavian is automatically perfect, but it is very very very strange that anything that has been perfect for two years becomes totally unacceptable overnight, Scandinavian, Balkans, Far East or African
@ 14:04 I don’t like it either. As we say in SLO: privlečeno za lase.
DeleteCrazy that Braathens failed an audit. Austrian Airlines did the only right thing in immediately terminating that contract.
ReplyDeleteWe don't even know if that's true. And we don't know what part of the audit was failed.
DeleteWe do: According to Austrian Airlines, the Swedish carrier no longer meets the operational standards required by the Lufthansa Group.

DeleteExplanation of the situation is in your last two words : Lufthansa Group. And I would rather refrain from publishing my experiences with "the highest" LHG "operational standards"
Yes, Lufthansa and their “standards”. I’d rather fly Braathens.
DeleteBrathendl Airlines ready for dinner ...
ReplyDeleteThe BRA group of companies is since the summer going through turmoil and seems to be collapsing unit by unit.
ReplyDeleteBRA is an SAS partner which not so long ago through the Star Alliance was closely working with the LHG so they should have been aware of the requirements.
Let's see what happens with BRA in the next 2/3 weeks....
Perhaps it’s intentional. I don’t trust LH!
