NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has marked the first anniversary of its service between Belgrade and Shanghai on Sunday, with the carrier handling close to 50.000 passengers on the route during its first year of operations. The airline had 55.000 seats on the market during the twelve-month period. The Chinese city was the busiest unserved route from Belgrade, while the Serbian capital was one of Shanghai’s busiest unserved destinations in Europe prior to the route’s launch.

Commenting on the anniversary of the first flight, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “The introduction of nonstop flights between Belgrade and Shanghai aimed to foster stronger and more efficient connections between Serbia and this important global hub. During the first year of operations on this intercontinental route, we carried nearly 50.000 passengers, which clearly demonstrates that we successfully met market needs and fulfilled passenger expectations. This result further confirms the strategic importance of the Belgrade - Shanghai route and its contribution to strengthening the traditionally excellent bilateral relations between Serbia and the People's Republic of China, as it enables a faster exchange of experiences, the development of business cooperation and more intensive cultural and tourism contacts between our countries”.

Passenger figures for the first half of 2025 on all of Belgrade’s China routes can be found here.

With 90% LF, this should be a priority for increasing frequencies, especially during peak periods

Agree, Chinese market will be in stagnation in 2026 in terms of capacity. It must continue to grow.

The island of Hainan is Chinese Hawaii. Google it, quite an impressive place.
