Romanian flag carrier TAROM has this week restored operations between Bucharest and Belgrade after a three-month hiatus. It will initially maintain just one weekly rotation during July, increasing to two weekly from August. TAROM codeshares with Air Serbia on flights between the two capitals. Air Serbia maintains twelve weekly services on the route and is deploying the larger Embraer E190 aircraft on an average of seven weekly rotations, while the remaining flights will be operated by the ATR72-600. TAROM also uses an ATR72-600 on the service.

Tarom should just surrender this route to JU. Their presence is symbolic.
ReplyDeleteWhy should they? They are the only real foreign partner JU has in BEG.
DeleteThey have a code-share and they offer connections on JU outside their waves.
JU has not brought a single foreign airlines to BEG to feed their network. Tarom is much needed.
^ what a bunch of nonsense. First TAROM launched flights to Belgrade in 2009, 4 years before Air Serbia even began flying. I am sure its 1 weekly flight is vital to Air Serbia's transfer netwotk.
DeleteCompetition is always good.
DeleteAir Serbia has completely pushed TAROM out of this route. If they cannot fly more than 1pw during summer, what to expext during winter?
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteNo, JU did not push them out. Tarom was internally destroyed by politically appointed management. They are basically Jat Airways 2.0
DeleteBoth can be true.
DeleteTAROM is fading away all around the place, not just in BEG. It is clear. I am confident in few weeks time, if not earlier, we will read onhere that they are pulling out of BEG for good.
ReplyDeleteRomanian-based carries are notoriously messy. I've had very bad experiences with both Animawings and HiSky changing flight times for domestic routes (which i have to use often) with very little warning. I agree that TAROM's days in Belgrade are probably limited.
ReplyDelete+Air Connect, Fly Lili, Dan Air
DeleteI will miss Tarom, I don't think they have much life left in them. They are one of the few left airlines from the Cold War era... only to survive are LOT and Aeroflot.
ReplyDeleteWe have lost many players from that era: JAT Yugoslav Airlines, Adria, Malev, Balkan, CSA...
During the cold War TAROM were a rare user of aircraft built in the west. The other of course being JAT.
DeleteWhile it would be 'sad' to see them go, Romania's aviation sector is booming with other players who have been more nimble.
How did you lose JAT exactly, cuz legally it's still there
DeleteThe country aint..sadly..
Delete19.18
DeleteJust for your info: In Toronto, JAT crews were shuttled between Pearson Airport and City Center Sheraton Hotel and Towers where they used to stay, with 5 LIMOUSINES (those long long american stuff, you know) as a sign of appreciation. Today, the crews are treated almost with humiliation. So the answer is yes, we did lose JAT, together with the era it belonged to and the country it had been successfully representing all over the World. And no, even legally, actually especially legally Air Serbia is not the same company. The one that continues with JAT heritage, the successor to JAT, yes, but no matter of what you think and believe, never ever be no airline be again what JAT used to be, especially during the last decade of SFRJ
No more limos, they are now using standard mini coach/bus services, just like other airlines.
