Low cost carrier Wizz Air has scheduled three new routes from Sarajevo Airport for the upcoming winter season, in line with recent announcements that it would offset Ryanair’s departure over the coming months. The airline will introduce two weekly flights from Berlin and Bratislava on December 3, followed by Prague on December 18. All three routes will increase to three weekly services from the start of the 2027 summer season in late March. Wizz Air will not base an aircraft in Sarajevo, but will use jets from other bases instead. The 239-seat Airbus A321neo will be deployed on all three routes.
| Route | Launch date |
| Bratislava - Sarajevo | 03.12.2026 |
| Sarajevo - Berlin | 03.12.2026 |
| Prague - Sarajevo | 18.12.2026 |
The new additions will operate alongside three weekly services to Rome Fiumicino and two weekly flights to London Luton. As a result, Wizz Air will offer eleven weekly departures from Sarajevo, adding just over 5.000 weekly seats to the market. All three new routes are expected to be subsidised, with Wizz Air set to respond to a public call for the launch of new services, which local authorities are expected to issue towards the end of the month.
The development marks Wizz Air’s biggest expansion in Sarajevo since it closed its base in the city four years ago. The airline had aircraft stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital for roughly seventeen months, between May 2021 and October 2022. During that period, it served sixteen routes, although none of the three new destinations were part of its network at the time. Wizz Air has become Bosnia and Herzegovina’s largest airline this year, overtaking Ryanair, which held the title in 2025. The carrier also operates a base in Tuzla, which was reopened at the end of last year, two years after its closure.

Excellent news for Sarajevo
ReplyDeleteInteresting that two of the three routes are also served from Tuzla
ReplyDeleteTuzla će još opasti,očekujem i smanjenje baze.
Deletenegative.
DeleteQuick reaction by SJJ management to cover Ryanair loss
ReplyDeleteSo they will cover 10+ routes with 3 routes and 5.000 passengers ? Really nice theory
DeleteSarajevo has gone from worrying about Ryanair leaving to getting three new Wizz routes almost immediately. Not a bad outcome at all.
DeleteIt’s 5.000 passengers by week
DeleteSarajevo did in 2 weeks what Ljubljana can't do in years
ReplyDeleteLJU doesnt need other connections, just fly via FRA to the world.
DeleteIf Sarajevo can get SKP-SJJ-PRG-SJJ-SKP flights, why can't Ljubljana?
ReplyDeleteYou mean SKP-PRG-SJJ-PRG-SKP :)
DeleteTGD-LJU-BER-LJU-TGD and SKP-LJU-MLA-LJU-SKP
Delete@9.09 you are so wrong
DeleteNo anon @11:40, you are so wrong. They're not gonna fly SKP-SJJ because it's illegal/not allowed/not possible/impossible/nemoguce/nelegalno. Maybe that's gonna get it through your head. It's simply a W pattern, which given the fog problems at SJJ and SKP is gonna be another stupid decision by Wizzair as W patterns are notoriously problematic for the crew running out of hours and having to choose between getting stranded outstation (including the airplane) or being forced to cancel the last 1 or 2 sectors just to come back to home base and have the airplane available for the next rotation.
DeleteThe more you know...
@12.18 what are you even talking about?
Deletehm SKP-SJJ was legal/allowed/possible/moguce/legalno for Aegean and will be same for Wizz if they ever wanted to fly this route but thats not the topic at all. In the first version of the news it was said that PRG will be flown with SKP aircraft but was then corrected and thats where the comments from 09.07 and 09.09 came from
Delete12:18 knows exactly what they're talking about. It's funny what happens on this portal as soon as some informed opinion pops up.
Deletewe have seen the imformed opinions from SJJ that FR will open a base this winter ...
DeleteSKP may have some fog but thats obviously not a big problem for Wizz to expand its base there since 2011.
DeleteSo Skopje is losing and Sarajevo is winning this winter :(
ReplyDeleteHow is Skopje losing?
DeleteWhat Skopje losing ? Are u ok? Skopje have 30+ Wizz air routes and Sarajevo only 5 ?? U definitely not ok
DeleteCalm down
DeleteWell, instead of expanding in Skopje they will use the aircraft in Sarajevo
Deletelol
Deletethose aircrafts are not SKP aircrafts, means somewhere else is losing... the wet dream of some Skopje to loose, SMFH
DeleteGreat news for Sarajevo. Prague and Berlin should both do very well, especially with three weekly flights from summer.
ReplyDeleteBerlin was badly needed. Huge Bosnian diaspora there and a very popular city break destination as well.
ReplyDeleteNajbolja zamena za soju u pljeskavici je - meso.
ReplyDeleteIsto važi i za Ryr..
What is the actual flying time on 500km Sarajevo - Bratislava route ?
ReplyDeleteThis is good for Sarajevo, the start date is a bit late but the routes don't overlap with any of the Ryanair ones and if that 425k thing actually happens SJJ can target 2.5+ million pax with the current routes. But you never know what may happen, positive or negative.
ReplyDeleteObviously this year it will still be a drop of 5% but they aligned well
DeleteHow come they now don't have an issue with fog and bad weather? Wasn't that the excuse they used when they left Sarajevo?
ReplyDeleteI think that was for Tuzla
DeleteEleven weekly Wizz departures is already quite a respectable operation considering there is no based aircraft.
ReplyDelete239 seats on every flight is a lot of capacity, particularly in winter
ReplyDeleteThey will never will A321 in winter it is impossible, thats why Ryanair left. For Wizz air they actually dont care will they fill up a plane or not because they are getting subsidies for the routes. Basically their profit is already payed with the subsidies
DeleteSarajevo is actually ending up in a stronger position after Ryanair announced its withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteWizz clearly sees potential in Bosnia again. Tuzla base reopened, Sarajevo expanding, and they are now the biggest airline in the country.
ReplyDeleteDont just repeat the same comment , expanding is not witj routes. It is far away from expanding. They dont even have a plane based thee so please calm down and count after the subsidies finish they will leave again
DeleteGoing from 2 to 5 routes is expanding, regardless of how much that bothers you.
DeleteFunny how quickly things change. Four years ago Wizz was shutting its Sarajevo base and now it is expanding again.
ReplyDeleteAdding 3 routes is not expanding at all. It is just response to Ryanairs leaving. And of course Wizz air is return with subsidies most likely when they finish they will dissapear like the last time they did ;)
Delete@9.29 unlike 3 years ago, now all of their operations in BiH are subsidised.
DeleteAnd thats why they add those 3 routes , for clear profit even with empty planes they dont care about that. After subsidies are done they will vanish as they did the last time. Already known scenario
DeleteYes, I guess they will do the same in your Skopje too since all new routes are subsidised. Your hatred for Sarajevo really should be studied.
DeleteWizz becoming Bosnia's largest airline again seemed almost impossible when they closed both bases a few years ago.
DeleteWell W6 will attack anywhere they will see weekness. In this case they smelled the FR leaving , so they are always ready to jump im where there are subsidies on offer. Simple as that :))))
DeleteI think this is clear sign that Wizz air will do anything to make Ryanair not to come back to Sarajevo. This is their tactic. Immediately add few routes and when Ryanair notice them they will never return to this airport. Ryanair simply dont want to compete with Wizz air especially not in small markets like Sarajevo
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteHopefully this is only the first round. Dortmund, Copenhagen and Eindhoven would also be very welcome back.
ReplyDeleteNice expansion but I still think Sarajevo desperately needs better connectivity to Scandinavia.
ReplyDeleteWhy u think that , is Bosnian diaspora so strong in Scandinavia so it will be succesfull ? I dont think so , what really could be acceptable is flights to Germany as most Bosnians are located there talking for Europe
DeleteYes, Bosnian diaspora in Scandinavia is one of the largest. You obviously have no clue.
DeleteLose vijesti za Tuzlu.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest positive is that these are not only summer seasonal routes. Sarajevo needs more winter connectivity.
ReplyDeleteBratislava could actually work very well if marketed properly as an alternative airport for Vienna.
ReplyDeleteSarajevo Airport has had an impressive few years. The network is becoming much more diverse than it used to be.
ReplyDeleteLet's see what happens with the public call. If all three are subsidised, hopefully the contracts require the routes to operate for several years.
ReplyDeleteI expect Berlin and Bratislava to be strongest for VFR traffic, Prague for tourism
ReplyDeleteWith Rome, London, Berlin, Prague and Bratislava, Wizz is building quite a useful little Sarajevo network without even basing an aircraft there.
ReplyDeletewhat does useful even mean??
DeleteCongrats SJJ!
ReplyDeleteCould 2/3 weekly flights between SJJ and LJU work or is there not enough demand?
ReplyDeleteCould a 239 seater really work on such a route?
DeleteI was think the TZL Based crew will operate the flights between Bratislava and Berlin to Sarajevo frm incoming Tuzla like TZL-BTS-SJJ-BTS-TZL seems not to be
ReplyDeleteIt will be from BTS base.
DeleteBTS-SJJ-BER-SJJ-BTS
The A321neo is a big aircraft for Sarajevo in December. It will be interesting to see the load factors during January and February.
ReplyDeleteWizz također vraća A321 u Tuzlu od januara, veliki avioni za period kad nema putnika.
DeleteI wouldn't be surprised if Wizz announces another couple of Sarajevo routes for summer 2027 once they see how these perform.
ReplyDeletePrague is the route I am happiest about. There is strong tourism potential in both directions and very few convenient alternatives.
ReplyDeleteI think the Depart time could be make some problems in the morning and in winter Sarajevo and fog is not so nice but let’s see maybe will work very good because they flight from incoming Bratislava then to Berlin and back
ReplyDeleteDay 2200 in waiting to read: Wizz Air schedules three new Ljubljana routes
ReplyDeleteim not from Bosnia but is very clear from the schedule that they are gonna use BTS aircraft for BTS-SJJ-BER-SJJ-BTS rotation
ReplyDeleteWould've made a lot more sense from TZL base. Especially with A320 as well.
DeleteWell positioning flights are not for free so not su mich more sense
Deletemeans there is some floating capacity at their new BTS base
DeleteTrivex What positioning are you talking about? They fly from TZL to both BER and BTS.
DeleteAnon 13:11 Yeah figures. I remember reading here that the TZL fleet is a bit underutilized but I might be wrong. Although on the other hand I know that PRN-FMM is operated by SKP aircraft, while OHD-FMM is operated by TIA aircraft, good example of how clueless they can sometimes be.
Deletei dont see where the cluelessness should be except if you are stuck in an etnic bubble
DeleteBTS-SJJ-BER-SJJ-BTS
ReplyDeleteNice, well done Sarajevo, next year will be awesome!
ReplyDeleteRyanair isn't coming back
ReplyDeletewell the odds have gone up but Wizz isnt launching any of the Ryanair routes
Delete
