NEWS FLASH

Sarajevo Airport is continuing its efforts to secure a new service to Tirana. Acting CEO, Dino Selimović, discussed the initiative with Albania’s new Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spiro Koci. “We discussed the establishment of a direct air service between Sarajevo and Tirana, an initiative on which our airport has been actively working for some time in cooperation with our colleagues at Tirana International Airport”, Mr Selimović said. He added, “The joint analyses carried out to date, contacts with airlines and assessments of the route’s market potential provide a solid foundation for advancing this initiative. A direct air link between Sarajevo and Tirana would create opportunities for stronger growth in tourism, business ties, investment and regional cooperation, while also bringing the people of our two friendly countries closer together”.

You need a turboprop for it to be viable. IF OU was pragmatic, they would ask for a ZAG-SJJ-TIA-SJJ-ZAG leg with their wet leased ATR

@11:24 If OU wanted to loose even more money flying to Sarajevo it would do that yep.

It would be profitable only with a turboprop, or how Anonymous 11:24 said, if OU would do it from ZAG-SJJ-TIA-SJJ-ZAG . The ZAG - TIA wouldn't fail , plus people would stop in Bosnia from Tirana ,so they could travel around

@11:38 It would not be profitable at all mate. People do not just 'fly up to Sarajevo' from Tirana for a holiday. Those that need to go drive, those whose companies pay for the flight send them via Belgrade or Vienna. Talk like this is just pure nonsense in real economic terms. Routes need real economic and social links to work, especially ultra-niche links such as that would be.

Given Sarajevo's geographical location, its future regarding intra-EXYu flights is very limited. For BiH the importance is on improving regional and internal road links which remain a real stumbling block for the country. But regarding Tirana, non-starter in my opinion even in a decade or so.

There is only one exyu airport with year-round flights because JU operate efficient connections. There is also point to point demand, which I cannot imagine exists for Sarajevo to Tirana in anything like the numbers required to make a route work. Just because city pairs are not connected does not mean that the should be.

talking about p2p if we exclude Pristina which is only 2-3 hours away by bus, Skopje is the only one that comes to my mind, they have regular multiple daily buses but its too close for a jet probably

That would be ideal, because for us coming from Sarajevo, it takes seven hours of a miserable drive via Šćepan Polje—the worst border crossing in the world—and that’s in the best-case scenario.
