Adria Airways will inaugurate seasonal flights from Maribor to London Southend Airport this afternoon, marking the first commercial service by the national carrier from Slovenia’s second largest city in fifteen years. Flights will operate three times per week on a low cost basis with a mix of A319 and Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft. The airline aims to establish Maribor as its low cost hub in 2016. Adria’s CEO, Mark Anžur, has previously said that “All conditions are there to create a low cost base in Maribor and station an aircraft in the city next year. Flights to Germany are being considered and we see great potential there due to Graz’s close proximity. Even Spanish holiday destinations would be of interest. In the long-term, Maribor would be very appealing to eastern markets because of its short distance to many tourist destinations and would be interesting to Russians”. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Berlin and Barcelona are being considered for next year.
The Managing Director of Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport, Marko Gros, described today’s launch as a major milestone. “We have to start somewhere so we started with London. We are hoping for an increase in the number of routes”, Mr Gros said. Maribor Airport handled some 18.000 passengers last year, the majority of which were flown on charter flights. It estimates to handle 35.000 passengers in 2015. Further flight information for the new Maribor - London Southend service can be found here.
Koliko ljudi ce iz Graza leteti iz Maribra?
ReplyDeleteThats just great... next year maybe to Paris instead of Berlin...
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteAdria had on first rotation (Maribor - London - Maribor) approximately 140 passengers. Everage value of flight coupon is arround 50,- EUR. Means whole revenue was 7.000 EUR. Cost of aircraft rotation ( Ljubljana (empty) - Maribor - London - Maribor - (empty) - Ljubljana) for arround 6 hours of flight is cca 20.000,- EUR. Who Will cover the difference of 13K EUR? Situation on next flights is similar. Community of Maribor? Slovenian taxpayers? Workers of Adria?
ReplyDeleteI think youre ba at math... they surely would not fly this route if it was SO uneconomic... I believe that they know what they are doing....
DeleteBut if they're selling some drinks in de airplane the revenue will be more than 7000 euro.
DeleteI agree with the first replier... I would also like to add that it wont always be LJU-MBX-SEX-MBX-LJU because today the A319 stayed at MBX so there were no aditional two flights to LJU
DeleteDo you think, Adria will keep one A/C in Maribor, just for 3 weekly rotations? There Will allways be empty flight from/to Ljubljana
DeleteIm sure that not always but today A319 stayed at MBX.

Reason why S5-AAX stayed in Maribor was technical. Adria Tehnika came from Ljubljana and repair aircraft before next flight
DeleteThe cheapest return flights were 69€, not 50€. Now is the cheapest return flight available from 139 €.

The cheapest TICKET was 69 EUR. (cca 20 EUR airport taxes + revenue of Adria --> means Adria gets cca 50,- EUR per RETURN trip, for one way Adria gets in this case 25 EUR. I was talking about EVERAGE One way coupon. This route is a POLITICAL one, established just for promotion of some politics (i.e. Mayor of MBX) and some persons within Adria. I am wondering, if Adria will publish result of this route at the end of season.
ReplyDeleteSome tickets were 69€, but not all. Most of them are more expensive.
ReplyDeleteFirst 30 tickets sold per flight are for 69,- EUR, next 20 sold per flight are for 99,- EUR, next 20 for 139 EUR, next 20 per 169 EUR and so on. On some dates number of cheapest tickets might be lower due to higher demand - but this was not yet detected on this route. From these numbers you might easily calculate revenue. Costs for four (4) legs which have to be operated for Maribor flights I have shown in my previous post. Calculation is not difficult. Challenge which has to be solved is how to split POLITICS and polititian decissions from ECONOMIC ones. Bill comes at the end. Question is, who is gonna pay it?
