Thursday, April 9, 2015

Air Seychelles, which is a member of of the Etihad Airways Partners equity alliance, has announced the launch of codeshare flights from the archipelago to Belgrade in partnership with its part-owner Etihad Airways. According to its agreement with the Emirati carrier, Air Seychelles will place its code and flight numbers onto Etihad’s service from Abu Dhabi to Belgrade and will also offer codeshare flights to Athens. In a statement, the carrier’s CEO, Manoj Papa, said, “This expansion adds two important cities to our network, making Europe more accessible to our customers and strengthening our brand presence in this important region. It also builds on the hard work of the Seychelles government, which has signed new air services agreements with Greece and Serbia, and deepens our successful partnership with Etihad Airways”. He added, “Our bilateral ties have deepened and widened across many different sectors over the last two decades and with this service we can look forward to enhancing our relations further, with more cultural exchanges, technical cooperation and people-to-people contact”. Air Serbia already codeshares on Etihad’s service between Abu Dhabi and the island.

Why don't they codeshare on JU flights? All codeshares are on EY flights. Seems that EY wants to funnel all revenue to itself :(

      BEG-AUH
EY72: JU 8080, VA 7072, UL 2472 and now Air Seychelles

Interesting observation of mine is that in some airports where JU codeshares with EY not a single JU code is displayed on the departure board. Ive been to MEL, SYD, SIN and SEZ where JU is said to codeshare with EY and only in AUH is the JU codes shown.

Interesting. In Perth JU codes are shown normally on the departure display screens/baggage pick-up.

This article has nothing to do with Air Serbia. It's about Air Seychelles placing it's code on Etihad flights to Belgrade.
