Jat holds off passenger plunge

Jat’s numbers similar to last year

Jat Airways welcomed 82.336 passengers in March, managing to avoid a major passenger plunge due to a big reduction in operations. Compared to the same month last year when it handled 83.369 passengers, the Serbian carrier registered a passenger decrease of 1.2%. This is despite the fact that the number of operated flights plunged 12%. The average cabin load factor was up on last year, standing at 70%, an improvement of two points. Services to and from Montenegro were hardest hit. With a 17% reduction in flights, passenger numbers fell 11%. Euro-Mediterranean flights saw a 1% passenger decrease on top of an 11% reduction in operations, while charter flights registered a 74% passenger increase compared to March 2012.

Thanks to a strong January, the Serbian national carrier has recorded a 0.5% passenger increase in the first quarter. A total of 221.573 passengers used the airline’s services in the first three months. The average cabin load factor stood at 64%, down one point, while the number of operated flights decreased 8%. Jat has managed to divert a major passenger plunge thanks in part due to constant promotional ticket sales to various European destinations.

Yesterday, the Serbian Minister of Transport, Milutin Mrkonjić, confirmed that the carrier is in the process of acquiring new aircraft which are to begin arriving later next month. This Thursday Jat’s cabin crew will begin training for the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. The training course will run for 25 days. Last Friday, Jat Airways CEO, Vladimir Ognjenović, said that the Serbian airline plans to end the year breakeven. He added that if a strategic partnership with Etihad Airways materialises, the airline should be operating with a profit next year.

    Actually jat have seen a steep decline in passenger numbers if just scheduled traffic figures are included. As for the new aircraft, this is just boring news. It isn't going to happen this year!

      Actually if just scheduled traffic figures are included in the first quarter Jat recorded a 1% decrease. I wouldn't say it’s a steep decline but a decline nonetheless.

      JAT's operating loss in 2012 was 32 million euros. By the way, JAT's stats for April 2013 are terrible : number of flights -10%, number of passengers -20%, compared to April 2012. Incredible ! Boycott ?!

      By what we can see Serbs, because they don't have real successes, have to dream a lot, this makes their unperspective live easier. It is just code-share! Nothing else. With Etihad and with Air Berlin. Code-share – they will not make Belgrade a hub, there will not be hundreds of thousands of transfer passengers, there will not be huge investments. Even more that will make Jat feeder and in end will stop Belgrade expansion. Why you try to make simple code-share interplanetary agreement which will make Jat what it once was? Are you really so desperate that you have to make this? If Etihad will buy 49% of Jat than God smile on you. But with simple code-share? What good comes from Croatia Airlines code-share with Lufthansa, Turkish, Austrian, US Airways, Brussels, TAP, SAS, Swiss?

      Etihad has 41 code-share agreements, Air Berlin 15. Etihad did not even put this code-share in their time-table and global systems. This shows how important that is for them.

      You're right, nothing is important for them - that is why they're about to dedicate a jet for 14 hours a day only for the daily service to Belgrade, instead of some other city. That's also why Hogan came to Belgrade and why they're coming in an A330 today, cause it just means nothing to them actually... more exactly they're morons. They're fooling around. By the way they're Serbs, Hogan is also an undercover Serb, maybe even the Sheik is a Serb without perspective who likes to dream...on the other hand, Zagreb airport seems to never be able to take-off from the 'dream' stage. So i wonder who's the one having delusions and refusing to see the reality.
