Air Serbia's newly leased wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft has operated its first revenue service. The jet, which seats 254 passengers, was deployed on this morning's 35-minute flight from Belgrade to Podgorica with fifty (visibly surprised) travellers on board. It replaced the 66-seat ATR-72 turboprop this morning and was used primarily for crew familiarisation purposes, prior to its use on the Belgrade - New York route from June 23. The A330 is the first wide-body passenger aircraft to be operated by a Serbian-registered airline since Jat Airways retired its DC-10 in June 2005.
Air Serbia will utilise the A330 on three regional routes. According to a preliminary schedule, the jet will be sent to Banja Luka and Zagreb, in addition to Podgorica. Banja Luka will greet the aircraft tomorrow, with return fares from Belgrade starting at only 54 euros at the time of this publication. The jet will then be sent to Zagreb from June 12 through to June 21, on both the morning and evening service, with additional flights to Banja Luka to operate throughout the week as well. The jet will then be taken out of service until its inaugural flight to New York on Thursday, June 23 in the morning.
| Destination | Date (June) |
|---|---|
| Podgorica | 10 |
| Banja Luka | 11, 12, 16, 19 |
| Zagreb | 12 - 21 (double daily) |
* This is a preliminary schedule based on GDS availability, changes are possible
Commenting on the new addition to the fleet, Air Serbia's CEO, Dane Kondić, said, "The excitement surrounding the arrival of our A330 aircraft in Belgrade was incredible and many people are naturally interested in experiencing our new flagship product first-hand". He added, "To cater to this interest and as part of preparations for our transatlantic flights, we will operate our new wide-body aircraft on special flights to three important cities in the region, providing the perfect opportunity for aviation enthusiasts and regular commuters to fly on one of the biggest jets in the Balkans".

Anyway looks really nice. They promised US flights in 2016 three years ago and they delivered.

The cabin colors are far more elegant than the ones it had in Jet. It looks a lo more classy.
Safe travels YU-ARA
I would deeply discount the fares to these regional destination, as the plane and flight crew have to do their required sectors, so you might as well get as much revenue for these flights as you can.
Once again, congratulations!! May many more 330s come to ASL!

"Vucic said" i "Vucic said" oko Air Serbia, ko sisa Daneta.
4. To je predložio još Purger, Hrvat.
5. Ti si sam nacionalno opterećen.
Adria Airways is going to offer lower ticket prices for passengers with no check in luggage. The people who would buy such tickets would have a possibility to add additional 23kg luggage (to go to check in) 4 hours before their flight. Adria passengers are allowed to take 8kg hand luggage on board.

Sofia - 1 let
Bucharest - 1 let
Tirana - 1 let
Thessaloniki - 1 let
Atena - 1 let
Dubrovnik - 1 let
Split - 1 let
Pula - 1 let
Beirut - 1 let
Varna - 1 let

VIE and PRG could have been the perfect candidates for these training flights as they are both operated by the Atrs but they are extremely expensive so why bother paying more when you have a cheaper alternative closer to home.

If it is about airport which can serve A330 than LJU do it several times per year, but we all saw long-haul planes in SKP, SJJ, TIA, SPU, DBV...
When will they start those prices. First flight from ZAG is in two days?

I don't think there is enough time to send the A330 on one of the regional routes during the noon bank. Even the BNX flight departs at 09.00.
If they deployed it to Pula or Dubrovnik, the aircraft would not make it to Belgrade before 17.00 thus most passengers would miss their connections.
Of course, they could have sent it to one of the night regional routes but it wouldn't be as great for marketing purposes.
Flights to ATH, PRG,GVA,HAJ,FRA and BCN are with PAX for LX as JU does to TGD, ZAG and BNX!
It's not the speed that matters but the time needed to service the aircraft on the ground. You can't turnaround an A330 in less than 90 minutes while for an Atr you need barely more than 30 minutes.
It is not only the turnaround time that is key for "normal" operations to be maintained, but other factors such as technical in relation to ease of landing into and taking off from many of these regional airports.
Other factors include maintenance facilities and support in case of AOG. Better to have the aircraft nearby than for it to be stuck far away.
Fuel burn is another factor.
These are test flights (they have to do 40 sectors) which must be completed before finalising ALL regulatory requirements.
All of these factors come together in such decisions - not some 'nationalistic' reasons as some above have quoted.
Amazing to read some of these conspiracy theories that continue to abound ....
BUT, it is significantly bigger than any other ex-yu airline, especially its nearest in Croatia Airlines and importantly, it continues to grow - something which OU is unable to do for whatever reason.
AND, it will be the only ex-yu airline flying to the USA, something which is much bigger Aegean doesn't do and won't do for the foreseeable future.
Unlike OU, it has 2 shareholders which are supporting its growth - something which is obviously a pain point for you.
I would also add that JU flying to ZAG would have little to no irritating factor for the majority of Croatians. What is far more concerning and irritating to ordinary Croatians, is the fact that they don't seem to have a stable govt which can focus on making the lives or its citizens better.
Look at Thomas Cook, Air Berlin, Monarch etc flying around in Europe. 60 min turn around. Emirates also dies that on intra-Gulf services.
A330 is a big bird but is fortunately very ground ops friendly and allows for a pretty fast dispatch.
However, if you are flying it to Dubrovnik with 120 passengers both ways then I think it will be a bit difficult to do it in less than an hour. The return flight would arrive back to BEG at 16.40 which would disable passenger from connecting onto the flights departing at around 17.00. Given that this is a training flight, all sorts of technical delays are possible so why dispatch the aircraft to a high risk route when you have so many other, cheaper and less risky ones?
hahahaha what a twist on my words.
I didnt expect nost and tail cameras. As I said yesterday, its a great thing to have, over all a big plus from me, used it as did many pax on my flight, however there is some stupid mistakes made (ie: title of the tv show is not written displaying only the cover photo which most dont have titles written in them. Only the title is shown once opening the movie). I will post pictures when i get time and you will see what I mean. The layout basically could be made more user friendly, and Im sure a route map wouldnt of been hard to add. They did after all even put in pop up messages that stop the program each time a PA is made.
EK doesnt turn its A330 in 60 mins even on its short sectors like MCT and DOH where they have minimal service. Its usually 1h 20 - 1h 40.
@ nemjee
Even if JU filled 200 pax to say DBV, disembarking and boarding would be the longest thing they would do. It would still probably be faster on the A330 due to 2 aisles with pax more spread out.
The type of service JU does on these flights makes cleaning very easy. Security searches might take a couple mins more. Even with a delay of say 30 mins back to BEG wouldnt make problem for connecting pax.
@ anonymous 8,03pm
JU doesnt have that problem with the A330 because it was retegistered 3 weeks ago to YU-ARA.
@ purger
A319 and A320 is already being sent to DBV and SPU on some days and that is what the A330 would replace in this case.
I agree that JU should be sending the A330 to more destinations rather then just TGD, ZAG and BNX. It just seems all last minute and poorly organised by JU for something which should be a great promotional opportunity for them.
@ anonymous
ac going AOG shouldnt be a problem due to recent maintenance. I dont think BEG could do any better maintenance than what could be done in these other cities. I dont even think that BNX has any maintenance facilities.

One of the things he mentioned in e-mail is that Air Serbia is concentrate for training flights on BEG-ZAG-BEG route because of number of operational reasons. We can not know what those operational reasons are, but for sure we can not have doubt about it, as information comes from the highest source. Even it makes sense that operational reason is more important than promotional or marketing possibilities.
I said that there are many variables that we have to consider and that it's risky to use it on routes with such a tight schedule. Look at yesterday's flight to TGD. The flight arrived at 08.04 and it departed at 09.47. And both flights had around 50 passengers. It's exactly because of similar scenarios that I said that it should be sent to destinations where they can be more flexible with their schedule.
Well, for 'promotional' purposes?
