Split and Dubrovnik airports see record October

NEWS FLASH

Split and Dubrovnik airports have registered their strongest October on record, keeping in line with trends set throughout the year.

Split Airport welcomed 225.170 passengers through its doors, representing an increase of 13.6%. The airport has already overtaken its 2017 end-of-year result and handled its record third-millionth traveller of the year during the month. Overall, during the January - October period, Split saw 3.024.926 passengers, up 10.3%. "By the end of the year, we expect to handle a further 150.000 passengers", General Manager Lukša Novak said.

Dubrovnik Airport was busier in October than its larger counterpart in Split as it handled 244.187 passengers. The figure represents an increase 12% on the same month last year. Overall, the airport registered 2.489.558 travellers through its doors by the end of October, up 10%. Dubrovnik's growth is expected to slow in the coming months as the airport kicks off the second phase of its runway overhaul this week, which will somewhat restrict traffic and capacity at the airport. Several airlines, including British Airways, Turkish Airlines and Vueling, have scheduled fewer flights this winter when compared to last.

Interesting, how PUY has surpassed ZAD by 100k whereas last year they were much closer to each other.

Seems like DBV was more successful in reducing seasonality than SPU. SPU must do better as Split has much larger population, even when entire catchment area is included, than Dubrovnik.

By saying this I do not mean to downplay absolutely stellar results of SPU in summer season that no airport in Croatia can rival, so hold your horses. :)

Dubrovnik has been a brand since the Middle Ages, Split not so much. It's only natural for it to develop more evenly through the year.

Any idea on OSI and ZAG?

Thing is Dubrovnik is further away from Zagreb so it makes sense to go by plane even for P2P passangers, not only transit ones.

      ZAG numbers OCT 2017/2018:
      Pax: 297682/318074, up 6.5%
      Operations: 3865/3970 up 2.7%

Numbers are not bad despite being below ZAG's projections/expectations. Cargo seems to be going down though.

HM, if Split handled 3,025 million in first 10 months, My earlier projection of airport handling 3.14 million is wrong, and needs to be revised, I think Split airport will handle around 3.1 million, if it does really well in next two months, it might handle 3.12 million.

My very first projection for Split airport back in mid 2017 was that it might handle 3.25 million, however the trend I am seeing now is slow down in growth, it is not as bad as some other airports in the region, but in 2019 figures might be more pronounced as trend continues. I am projection 2019 now @3.35 million.

Dubrovnik airport was major disappointment, in terms of growth, my projections in 2017 estimated Dubrovnik airport to handle 2.75 million this year, it seems the likely figure now will be 2.58 million.
If Airport continues at current pace of growth, it is likely in 2019, not more than 2.85 million passengers will pass though Dubrovnik airport.

Zagreb was also a let down, after researching few routes, and it was quite comprehensive research on some of the busiest routes for Croatian airlines, I realized, current management of the airline is beyond incompetent, they are largely responsible for massive mismanagement of the airline and losses the airline currently has. Problem isn't so much in routes, as is the capacity deployed on routes and efficiency of the fleet utilization. It simply doesn't exist in Croatian Airlines, and it seems it never did. And that is quite alarming to me.

    all for now.

@ Anon 18:32: Yes you are right! My projections for SPU stood at 5 million this year and for DBV at 4,98 million. SPU and DBV are really doing bad agains my projections. Ryanair seems to be underperforming in SPU and the cancellation of Cathay´s fourth weekly rotation to HKG really disappointed me. With 2 runways SPU at least should have done really better :D (Irony off! ;))

  7. Great results both! Split will only be about 200,000 pax behind Zagreb this year.

Spu is a cash cow. Any reason why don't they privatize that airport. Hardly beleive no one would be intrested

Reason is obvious. Apt will be more inefficient and have competency. No one wants airport that works better than one in a capital
