Europe's busiest airline, Ryanair, will add new services to Podgorica and Zadar next year, as the carrier continues to expand its operations throughout the former Yugoslavia. The budget airline will introduce its sixth destination to Podgorica, with flights from Bologna to launch on April 1. Services will run twice per week, each Monday and Friday, throughout the year. Ryanair faces no direct competition on the route, with Alitalia and Montenegro Airlines maintaining services between Rome and Podgorica, while Wizz Air operates flights from Milan Malpensa to the Montenegrin capital. “We are very pleased with our Podgorica operations, which continue to perform strongly”, the Irish low cost carrier said. Rynair's subsidiary, Laudamotion, previously announced it will be adding services between Stuttgart and Podgorica from April 2.
Ryanair has also unveiled the second set of new routes to Zadar, after previously announcing four new destinations. The airline will introduce operations from Krakow, Poznan and Bergamo, complementing its newly announced services from Cologne, Hamburg, Nuremburg and Prague. All will operate on a seasonal summer basis. The new routes are being launched in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board. It will result in overall growth in the airline's operations to Zadar by 50% with over forty weekly flights to be maintained to the city. Despite its growing network, Ryanair will close down its seasonal base in Zadar. "These routes will operate from other Ryanair bases as its seasonal Zadar base will not reopen in summer 2019", the company said.

Meanwhile, Dubrovnik Airport has confirmed Ryanair's arrival for next year after the airline put tickets on sale for flights from Dublin, marking its first service to the coastal city. Earlier this month, Dubrovnik Airport said, "We have not been given any formal notice of these flights and neither have we signed a slots agreement or handling agreement with them". However, the airport has now singled out the new route as one of its highlights for next year, along with American Airlines' seasonal flights from Philadelphia. Ryanair has also scheduled services from Dublin to Split, although the airport too has said it was baffled by the announcement, having held no prior talks with the carrier.

ReplyDeleteWhilst ZAD hasn't had huge growth this year it will go above 600,000 so a rise in pax. What is missing is a link to Scotland, Denmark, Finland and more of France. Ryanair seem to have stopped Paris. A link to Amsterdam, Geneva and Nice would be good instead of FR copying EW routes to CGN, HAM and BER.

DeleteThe gap between SKP and INI is getting narrower during the last 2 years and the trend is likely to continue. But anyway, good for SKP that BTS is doing fine. At least one destination is working well for them.
DeleteThe only reason SKP boomed is because the government decided to fund their expansion. Now that cash is running our routes are starting to drop one by one. As for PRN, given the tenst relationship between Belgrade and Pristina, it's much easier to use SKP. INI mostly relies on local demand and diaspora. Even with that, they manage to make LX work which isn't the case with SKP.

DeleteIn general, the traffic was artifically increased by heavily subsidising almost all routes with the exception of BUD, which was subsidised by Hungary.
The good thing about INI, is that it grew steadily by lowering the airpor tax to 3€, similar to what SOF did. They slashed the taxes and brought big traffic still with revenue.
As for PRN, things to look really nice and steady. Healthy growth and interesting developments when it comes to destinations such as Luton, for instance.
It will be interesting to also see how the PRN trend will be in the ex-Yu airport ranking list.

DeleteThis will be a major problem for SKP in the coming years. Both INI and PRN are fighting to keep their passengers from going to SKP by introducing more options to its passengers. PRN is already slowly taking over SKP without subsidizing a single route the same way SKP government did.

DeleteI flew Ryanair Zadar - Marseilles few years ago. There were more passengers with Croatian passport then French. I flew Eurowings Dusseldorf to Rijeka and Rijeka to Stuttgart two months ago and almost all passengers were Croatian maybe 20% Germans. Could you please stop trolling that flights to Croatian coast are only for tourists because it's not true. Of course there are more tourists on these flights because their markets are much larger and mostly richer than Croatian one but Croatian passengers use them as well in not so small numbers. So please, don't give us "only for tourists" anymore. Only for tourists are charter flights. LCC and legacy scheduled flights can be and are purchased and used by all kind and all nation of passengers and you should know it when trying to be so smart here and teach us something we see with our eyes is completely differrent from what you are saying

Also I must say I am very impressed with ZAD for next summer season not only ryanair, but also transavia (first connection to the Netherlands), Iberia express and others are starting flights. Also most new flights start early in april, giving Croats the opportunity to use it before the summer season really starts and they are stuck working in the Dalmatian cities.
After a disastrous 2018, I hope they do better in 2019.

ReplyDeleteZAG and ZRH are linked only in winter. They already are de-linked for 7 out of 12 months in year. Remaining 5 months are in low season for the coast, plus very very close, so I believe the answer to your question would be no.
