Europe's busiest airline, Ryanair, will add new services to Podgorica and Zadar next year, as the carrier continues to expand its operations throughout the former Yugoslavia. The budget airline will introduce its sixth destination to Podgorica, with flights from Bologna to launch on April 1. Services will run twice per week, each Monday and Friday, throughout the year. Ryanair faces no direct competition on the route, with Alitalia and Montenegro Airlines maintaining services between Rome and Podgorica, while Wizz Air operates flights from Milan Malpensa to the Montenegrin capital. “We are very pleased with our Podgorica operations, which continue to perform strongly”, the Irish low cost carrier said. Rynair's subsidiary, Laudamotion, previously announced it will be adding services between Stuttgart and Podgorica from April 2.
Ryanair has also unveiled the second set of new routes to Zadar, after previously announcing four new destinations. The airline will introduce operations from Krakow, Poznan and Bergamo, complementing its newly announced services from Cologne, Hamburg, Nuremburg and Prague. All will operate on a seasonal summer basis. The new routes are being launched in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board. It will result in overall growth in the airline's operations to Zadar by 50% with over forty weekly flights to be maintained to the city. Despite its growing network, Ryanair will close down its seasonal base in Zadar. "These routes will operate from other Ryanair bases as its seasonal Zadar base will not reopen in summer 2019", the company said.

Meanwhile, Dubrovnik Airport has confirmed Ryanair's arrival for next year after the airline put tickets on sale for flights from Dublin, marking its first service to the coastal city. Earlier this month, Dubrovnik Airport said, "We have not been given any formal notice of these flights and neither have we signed a slots agreement or handling agreement with them". However, the airport has now singled out the new route as one of its highlights for next year, along with American Airlines' seasonal flights from Philadelphia. Ryanair has also scheduled services from Dublin to Split, although the airport too has said it was baffled by the announcement, having held no prior talks with the carrier.
Bravo Hrvatska!
ReplyDeleteWhilst ZAD hasn't had huge growth this year it will go above 600,000 so a rise in pax. What is missing is a link to Scotland, Denmark, Finland and more of France. Ryanair seem to have stopped Paris. A link to Amsterdam, Geneva and Nice would be good instead of FR copying EW routes to CGN, HAM and BER.
DeleteGreat to see another new route to Podgorica after they added Stockholm this year. Bologna is an interesting choice.
ReplyDeleteThe schedule is excellent for city break. Evening departure on a Friday and early return on Monday so you can make it to work.
DeleteAnd it's year-round which is also important :)
DeleteThe good thing about LCCs flying to Podgorica is that they operate year-round and not just seasonal which is a win for customers.
DeleteThe two airport system is working well in Montenegro because you have Tivat for seasonal traffic and Podgorica for year-round more diaspora oriented traffic.
Delete@9.31: Ryan operates seasonal Wroclaw - Podgorica ;)
DeleteThat's the only one that's seasonal, for Polish tourists.
DeleteThe Laudamotion Stuttgart flight is also seasonal.
Delete"Meanwhile, Dubrovnik Airport has confirmed Ryanair's arrival for next year. The airport has now singled out the new route as one of its highlights for next year"
ReplyDeleteLOL how embarrassing the whole show they put on about not knowing anything about FR coming.
It just means FR got all the subsidies they wanted.
DeleteIdiots who believed they could outsmart Ryanair. Just shows they were completely bypassed in the entire process and that they were irrelevant to FR.
Deleteexactly the opposite
Delete^^ Yeah. That's why Ryanair will be flying there on the date and times they set.
Delete"Idiots who believed they could outsmart Ryanair."
DeleteUnlike some other airports in the region, at least they are not depending on Ryanair. Also, no need for concession, DBV is a great airport. But, yes, a strange move from the airport management.
And still no plans to fly to Zagreb :(
Deletenone of the major LCCs don't want to fly to ZAG
DeleteI was with CEO and management of Dubrovnik for long coffee, and they told me they did not negotiate with Ryanair when they put ticket online. And they did not give them any subventions or extra money for flaying out of regular discount for new routes.
DeletePurger
Ma daj Purger.
DeleteKako možeš?
Srušio si nam sve nade i snove...
Hahahah... sjedite 5!
Are any old routes being discontinued from Zadar next year?
ReplyDeleteNo.
DeleteYes A3 to ATH and FR to BRE and BVA
DeletePodgorica is really doing great. Well done!
ReplyDelete15% growth this year and I expect 10% in 2019 :)
DeleteAnd nothing new to INI :(
ReplyDeleteI believe they will actually cut Bratislava. I doubt they will be able to compete much longer against Wizz Air's Vienna flights.
DeleteThis route will also depend on SKP's performance on the route. I heard that BTS-SKP is not doing so well.
DeleteSKP-BTS
DeleteQ1 2017: 7.971
Q1 2018: 13.963
Q2 2017: 8.391
Q2 2018: 17.067
July 2017: 4.477
July 2018: 7.178
VIE in Q1 and Q2 this year had 19.000 and 30.000 passengers from SKP.
BTS and VIE are really close in Q1!!! Maybe Laudamotion will launch SKP flights.
DeleteLook at the current INI - BTS prices. This route is already history. I wonder if they will wait until April or cut it in Jan/Feb.
DeleteUnfortunate. How many routes will they have left if they cut BTS?
Deletehaha to the fake news 09:16 that BTS is not doing well. the A321 is always almost FULL. SKP is the 4th biggest destination from BTS in general
DeleteSo it must be SKP:INI 4:0 (EIN, Weeze, MMX, BTS).
DeleteLet's see how SKP performs now that PRN is booming. Have they published their November numbers?
Deleterumour is that they are gonna close the airport
DeleteI would be much more worried about INI - FMM, DTM, BSL given the fact they are mirrored in PRN ;)
DeleteAnd in SKP, there will for sure be a consilidation at a point of time.
Deleteits called consolidation not consilidation
DeleteAnd not constipation?
DeleteThe gap between SKP and INI is getting narrower during the last 2 years and the trend is likely to continue. But anyway, good for SKP that BTS is doing fine. At least one destination is working well for them.
DeleteThe only reason SKP boomed is because the government decided to fund their expansion. Now that cash is running our routes are starting to drop one by one. As for PRN, given the tenst relationship between Belgrade and Pristina, it's much easier to use SKP. INI mostly relies on local demand and diaspora. Even with that, they manage to make LX work which isn't the case with SKP.
Deletenarrowing the gap? SKP will have a plus of 300.000 passengers in 2018 while INI a plus of 30.000 passengers. not that it is not narrowing it is widening DEEPLY.
Deletethe difference SKP-INI: 2016 1.524mio, 2017: 1.536mio, 2018: 1.8mio
nobody can prevent you from posting but with your INI trolling you make the people from the south look like delusional which they are not. thinks twice before you post something. check facts. its not that difficult really but we are here to help.
True 19:42.
DeleteIn general, the traffic was artifically increased by heavily subsidising almost all routes with the exception of BUD, which was subsidised by Hungary.
The good thing about INI, is that it grew steadily by lowering the airpor tax to 3€, similar to what SOF did. They slashed the taxes and brought big traffic still with revenue.
As for PRN, things to look really nice and steady. Healthy growth and interesting developments when it comes to destinations such as Luton, for instance.
It will be interesting to also see how the PRN trend will be in the ex-Yu airport ranking list.
haha!
DeleteThis will be a major problem for SKP in the coming years. Both INI and PRN are fighting to keep their passengers from going to SKP by introducing more options to its passengers. PRN is already slowly taking over SKP without subsidizing a single route the same way SKP government did.
DeleteZAD should see significant growth in summer 2019.
ReplyDelete7 new routes to ZAD are simply amazing.
DeleteSuch a shame things didn't work out with Skopje. Not only would passenger numbers explode but there would a mix and choice between Wizz and Ryan and I assume Wizz would also try more.
ReplyDelete+100 we are stuck with Wizz and only Wizz.
DeleteGood news
ReplyDeleteGreat news. I do hope Ryanair expands more in the region.
ReplyDelete7 new routes to ZAD is CRAZY. Well done. Numbers should really grow.
ReplyDeleteThankfully the latest routes are not in Germany.
DeleteAs if any of their routes from/to ZAD serve the local population. They are all for tourists.
DeleteI have flown Ryan CRL-TGD plenty of times and the passengers were consisting of 65-70% people from north of Montenegro & Albania living abroad + 30-35% tourists (Belgian, Dutch, French and Serbian like myself).
DeleteAn. 9.22
DeleteI flew Ryanair Zadar - Marseilles few years ago. There were more passengers with Croatian passport then French. I flew Eurowings Dusseldorf to Rijeka and Rijeka to Stuttgart two months ago and almost all passengers were Croatian maybe 20% Germans. Could you please stop trolling that flights to Croatian coast are only for tourists because it's not true. Of course there are more tourists on these flights because their markets are much larger and mostly richer than Croatian one but Croatian passengers use them as well in not so small numbers. So please, don't give us "only for tourists" anymore. Only for tourists are charter flights. LCC and legacy scheduled flights can be and are purchased and used by all kind and all nation of passengers and you should know it when trying to be so smart here and teach us something we see with our eyes is completely differrent from what you are saying
ZAD-Memmingen were 65% cro (gasto and visitors) 35% tourists on my flight this summer
DeleteI wish Ryanair good luck and a lot of pax! I hope to see further growth from other airports in ex-Yu.
ReplyDeleteI hope eventually Sarajevo and Ljubljana will realize the benefits of being serviced by FR.
ReplyDeleteYou are hoping for too much. But you might see the 15th airline launch flights between Saudi Arabia and Sarajevo.
DeleteI agree and actually the destinations they are flying to from Podgorica would be ideal for Sarajevo. An extra 110,000 pax per year to SJJ would be fantastic.
DeleteWe can only dream of that unfortunately.
DeleteRyanair is building a nice little network in Podgorica. So refreshing to see Podgorica growing so quickly.
ReplyDeletehows that despite being small there is a market in Mont. Like someone said, had they opened the market earlier, Podgorica would have reached one million passengers two years ago. Instead they were protecting MGX which was falsifying its business results at the time.
DeleteThose Ryanair turnaround times are getting shorter and shorter. Just 25 minutes...
ReplyDeleteThey've had the 25 minute turnaround for more than 10 years now.
DeleteThat's why they are constantly delayed.
DeleteObviously airlines with 1+ hour turnaround have no delays ever.
DeleteCongrats! :)
ReplyDeleteRyan should have connected GOT with Montenegro as well, considering the large number of people from that country residing in western Sweden.
ReplyDeleteOr Wizz.
DeleteGiven that FR has now discovered Crna Gora, they are most likely to continue growing there.
ReplyDeleteAviation wise, the country is doing really, really good. It comes in second place after Croatia in the number of new routes for both TGD and TIV.
I won't be surprised to see long-haul flights soon too.
Let's not get carried with long hauls just yet.
DeleteAre there a lot of Montenegrins living in Italy?
ReplyDeleteNot really.
Delete2019 is going to be fantastic for Croatian airports.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of new flights already announced to Croatia next summer is really impressive.
Delete+1 I do hope that Brac gets some attention next year.
DeleteAll Croatian airports besides ZAG and OSI. Unfortunately Osijek will keep on struggling for a bit longer especially after Eurowings cuts.
DeleteFR is very aggressive and I don't think they will be at all happy with easy jet continuing to expand in Croatia. I predict they will be launching more new routes to Croatia next year.
ReplyDeleteOf course Ryanair, eurowings and easyjet are the biggest players when they only fly to Croatia for 6 months a year during the busiest period from the most popular markets. OU is tied down to flying year round, with much higher cost per passenger. Why doesn't the almighty Ryan fly year round to Zadar.
DeleteHow many passengers could we expect at ZAD next year?
ReplyDeleteGreat news for Croatia and Montenegro. New carriers and routes are being announced constantly.
ReplyDeleteIn the case of Croatia all are seasonal unfortunately.
DeleteTrue. Croatia should do more to attract airlines to fly year round. Then it would really be an achievement.
DeleteThat's one of Croatia's main focuses. Extending the tourist season.
DeleteTickets are already on sale.
ReplyDeleteA bit disappointing they didn't consider a destinations from Montenegro, Slovenia or Serbia from FRA.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I think Ryanair will add FRA INI flights in near future
Deletehaha
DeleteRyanair is not known to come and operate at your airport for free I wonder how much in subsidies they get from ZAD?
ReplyDeleteI would rather subsidize FR than failed national airlines.
DeleteIt's not the airport. It's the tourist board
Delete"The new routes are being launched in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board."
Bravo Hrv Bravo CG
ReplyDeleteits about time to start KRK-OHD
ReplyDeleteI think Ryanair should consider new routes from Nis and Maribor airport as well.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Ryanair is avoiding Slovenia like the plague. It's one of that rare EU countries they don't fly to.
DeleteNo chance for Maribor now that SHS Aviation owns the airport.
DeleteAnd Slovenia should be proud of it. FR lower prices to get rid of competition, then puts up prices.
Deletelast anon. L O L
DeleteFR is on a roll in ex-Yu.
ReplyDeleteI hope they establish more flights to Rijeka. That airport really needs more traffic.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame Osijek lost FR.
ReplyDeleteBologna-Podgorica is a great addition. Not your usual gasto route.
ReplyDeleteNothing yet for Rijeka 2019. More flights needed with LCC to UK.
ReplyDeleteRyanair should start Athens - Zadar flights now that Aegean discontinued flights and won't return next summer season they can fill the gap and create a bigger market with prices being lower.
ReplyDeleteAnyways I am happy to see Ryanair is looking at other destinations than the typical German cities to Zadar.
Also I must say I am very impressed with ZAD for next summer season not only ryanair, but also transavia (first connection to the Netherlands), Iberia express and others are starting flights. Also most new flights start early in april, giving Croats the opportunity to use it before the summer season really starts and they are stuck working in the Dalmatian cities.
After a disastrous 2018, I hope they do better in 2019.
DeleteWith LX launching ICN soon, do you think KE might delink ZAG and ZRH and link it with DBV or SPU?
ReplyDeleteZAG and ZRH are linked only in winter. They already are de-linked for 7 out of 12 months in year. Remaining 5 months are in low season for the coast, plus very very close, so I believe the answer to your question would be no.
DeleteYes but LX non stop would murder them from ZRH and I doubt they could operate ZAG on its own in winter.
DeleteRyanair will inaugurate 2 weekly flights from ZAD to EIN. starting from 1 April
ReplyDelete
