Slovenian businessman Joc Pečečnik, the founder of Interblock Gaming, which manufactures products for lottery games, plans to set up a new Ljubljana-based airline which would link the Slovenian capital with several European destinations. Mr Pečečnik has placed a bid for what remains of Adria Airways’ estate in cooperation with a foreign partner. “We decided to do this because we would like to establish a successful business and because we would like to be able to fly to European cities again from Ljubljana, and not go to neighbouring airports three or four hours before our flights, which are typically up to an hour long”, Mr Pečečnik said.
The businessman refused to reveal the name of the foreign partner linked to the project. “We believe that with the help of a strong foreign partner, which has experience in aviation, we could successfully establish this airline”, Mr Pečečnik said, adding that the partner in question is an expert in the aviation industry. According to reports, the businessman plans to establish a new Adria with the help of the carrier's former CEO Mark Anžur. Mr Anžur ran the company from late 2012 until its privatisation in March 2016. He later went on to serve as the CEO of the Irish regional carrier Stobart Air for an eight-month period.
Meanwhile, businessman Izet Rastoder, a banana importer and seller, as well as a real estate developer, who has bid for Adria Airways’ Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), is looking to develop an airline in the private aviation sector. According to reports, Mr Rastoder has established a new carrier - Air Adriatic - and is in the process of acquiring two private jets. On the other hand, the state is still weighing its options on whether to set up a new national carrier with the help of a foreign partner. A final decision on the matter is expected by the end of the month.
The JP demise hangover is tremendous. Don't really get why waste so much money on a project that is most likely to fail? What's worse is involving a person, who will act like an investor but lets see who will be behind the management. Don't think Slovenia is keen having another 4K or perhaps 5G company.

DeleteOnly fools or people who need to money launder, open up an airline nowadays in such a small market. Not a hint of a chance in todays market environment with LCC, government subsidized carriers or the Big3 in Europe. And to become a regional carrier for one of the Big3, you 'd need dozens of planes and for this u dont find anyone to pay in little cozy Slovenia. Hangover time will last another couple months until everybody becomes serious again in SLO.

Delete2 ferry flights to fly 2 revenue sectors with CRJ only to have found out CRJ isn't too happy with short and wet runways, and of course it's always sunny and dry in UK, so they had to send A319 most of the time for CRJ worth of pax.

DeleteWell Pečečnik can't count on IATA membership anymore. Adria has been officially booted out of it. This usually happens a month after an airline goes bankrupt but IATA waited to see if someone would be quick to establish a new Adria and assume its IATA membership.

DeletePececnik is likely an attention seaker. A statement " if the state is opening another /agency/ (meant Airline) we will step down from our initial plans to recover Adria" say it all. Also looking for slots when expired, IATA membership when it's aleardy gone and claim the project on the suspended AOC (which is another invention of Slovenian CAA). All about cheap public apperance.
