Slovenian businessman Joc Pečečnik, the founder of Interblock Gaming, which manufactures products for lottery games, plans to set up a new Ljubljana-based airline which would link the Slovenian capital with several European destinations. Mr Pečečnik has placed a bid for what remains of Adria Airways’ estate in cooperation with a foreign partner. “We decided to do this because we would like to establish a successful business and because we would like to be able to fly to European cities again from Ljubljana, and not go to neighbouring airports three or four hours before our flights, which are typically up to an hour long”, Mr Pečečnik said.

The businessman refused to reveal the name of the foreign partner linked to the project. “We believe that with the help of a strong foreign partner, which has experience in aviation, we could successfully establish this airline”, Mr Pečečnik said, adding that the partner in question is an expert in the aviation industry. According to reports, the businessman plans to establish a new Adria with the help of the carrier's former CEO Mark Anžur. Mr Anžur ran the company from late 2012 until its privatisation in March 2016. He later went on to serve as the CEO of the Irish regional carrier Stobart Air for an eight-month period.

Meanwhile, businessman Izet Rastoder, a banana importer and seller, as well as a real estate developer, who has bid for Adria Airways’ Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), is looking to develop an airline in the private aviation sector. According to reports, Mr Rastoder has established a new carrier - Air Adriatic - and is in the process of acquiring two private jets. On the other hand, the state is still weighing its options on whether to set up a new national carrier with the help of a foreign partner. A final decision on the matter is expected by the end of the month.

The JP demise hangover is tremendous. Don't really get why waste so much money on a project that is most likely to fail? What's worse is involving a person, who will act like an investor but lets see who will be behind the management. Don't think Slovenia is keen having another 4K or perhaps 5G company.
Just invite foreign carriers and quickly fill those JP gaps, which will lead to lower prices and more competition for all.

In less than a year, it'll be like Adria never existed. All the trunk routes will have been filled by external airlines. It's sad for the legacy but Adria had no place in the future.

this is unbelievable.
has that guy checked the margins of avioindustry?
doesn't he know that you have to be mad man to invest and work in avio?
doesn't he know that saying about billionaire who invested in avio and turned millionaire?
who is advising him?

Pececnik probabbly plans some collateral income, maybe increasing cargo traffic. His most important market was USA. How things are standing in last year, I don't know.

First their offer to buy Adria assets needs to be the winning bid .

But this would be a private company so it wouldn't involve the state.

Why. It seems that people in the know are behind this project.

Why are you so upset? Is it your money?

Because it is an expensive business. I don't know have you noticed how many airlinea went bankrupt this year.

Great, another overly ambitious project that is bound to fail.

Pečečnik got into some trouble for his statement. Although this site didn't mention it he said Slovenians shouldn't be forced to go to other airport like "cigani" - gypsies. He was called a racist.

Why is everyone so negative on this site. If a private investor has decided to set up an airline, why is everyone against it?? If he fails he will burn his own money, if not everyone will benefit.
13:05

If they have a foreign investor plus Pacecnik plus Anzur as CEO. It could be a good combination. Fingers crossed.

Everyone here (commentators) are overly negative about everything. It's like they enjoy to see everyone fail.

U komercijalnoj avijaciji posebno.

13:26

Like I said before, this would actually be the best. I hope it happens. Because it would mean that a 100% private airline would be set up and the government would give up on the idea of establishing a state owned carrier.
13:28
Anonymous said…
Please include Maribor Airport in your plans.
13:29
Anonymous said…
Well Pečečnik can't count on IATA membership anymore. Adria has been officially booted out of it. This usually happens a month after an airline goes bankrupt but IATA waited to see if someone would be quick to establish a new Adria and assume its IATA membership.
13:31

That would cement this start-ups failure.

CRJ, the core of all profitable airlines.
16:15
Anonymous said…
That was one of the routes planned with Adria's 60 year old experience.

2 ferry flights to fly 2 revenue sectors with CRJ only to have found out CRJ isn't too happy with short and wet runways, and of course it's always sunny and dry in UK, so they had to send A319 most of the time for CRJ worth of pax.

Pure profit and success.
16:18
Anonymous said…
Lol Slovenes where forced even before bankruptcy to use other airports. They were actually smart as "cigani" to search the most convenient way of travel with avoiding Adria and LJU
16:19
Anonymous said…
You can make profit in airline business without being an IATA member.
16:29
Anonymous said…
Yes, exactly why are you upset, Petar?
18:03
Anonymous said…
Based on some comments here it seems that is simply impossible to start a new airline. I believe it is possible, but you have to plan very well.
18:05
Anonymous said…
The frequency JP had on its network out of LJU will not be covered in years.
18:15
Anonymous said…
IATA membership is nowadays linked with IOSA registration. Once your AOC is suspended same hapends with the IOSA Registry. Once you're out of IOSA you are out of IATA in the next 90 days. Anyway, makes not much sense to be IATA member ...
18:19
E said…
Potential customers do not really care as long as the prices are good.
18:25

What is the issue with CRJ and wet runways? Is it the landing or takeoff?
18:28
Anonymous said…
Pececnik is likely an attention seaker. A statement " if the state is opening another /agency/ (meant Airline) we will step down from our initial plans to recover Adria" say it all. Also looking for slots when expired, IATA membership when it's aleardy gone and claim the project on the suspended AOC (which is another invention of Slovenian CAA). All about cheap public apperance.
Rastoder opened a LtD company. This is far away from submitting an EASA Form 44.20
18:34

Of course they will use Superjet- any runway is fine and plenty requests for ACMI and charters guaranteed.Success is unavoidable after correct selection of plane..

19:29

I agree. So much negativity. Relax people.
19:29

I think it will take until mid 2021 for LJU to fully recover. We will see.

The foreign partner could be that Irish consultancy company that was mentioned a while back.

Only fools or people who need to money launder, open up an airline nowadays in such a small market. Not a hint of a chance in todays market environment with LCC, government subsidized carriers or the Big3 in Europe. And to become a regional carrier for one of the Big3, you 'd need dozens of planes and for this u dont find anyone to pay in little cozy Slovenia. Hangover time will last another couple months until everybody becomes serious again in SLO.
